FF: Russell Robertson ~ Brad Ottens ~Jarrod Waite

HF: Mathew Bode ~ Matthew Pavlich ~ Brad Green

C: Joel Corey ~ Mark Ricciuto ~ Martin Mattner

HB: Adam Selwood ~ Chad Cornes ~ Brendon Goddard

FB: Tom Harley ~ Ben Rutten ~ Mathew Lappin

Ruck: Matthew Clarke ~ Tyson Stenglein ~ Kane Cornes

Interchange: John Meesen ~ Nathan Lovett-Murray ~ Des Headland ~ Sean Rusling

The main strength to my side would be the defensive back 6; it has flexibility and hard nosed defenders. Rutten and Harley would allow Cornes and Selwood to run out of defense and play that attacking role of the half back line

The forward line is can be considered dangerous with Pavlich, Green and Robertson but if they are having a bad day all 6 have been know to go missing.

The captain of my side would Mark Ricciuto

The bench is quite young and inexperienced but still a very talented bunch of players.

Darren Milburn, Cam Mooney, David Mundy
Sam Butler, Brent Staker, Shane Tuck
Cameron Bruce, Adam Cooney, Shaun McManus
Danyle Pearce, Brad Miller, Scott Lucas
Ashley Hansen, Matt Richardson, Adam Schneider

Josh Fraser, Scott West, Nick Stevens

Int: Mark Seaby, Richard Tambling, Jarryd Roughead, Sam Mitchell.

The main strength of my side is flexibility. I have selected players who can play all over the ground. Miller, Lucas, Hansen, Staker, and Richo can all play CHF and a lead up full forward role if required. Lucas and Hansen can play CHB. Cooney, Pearce, Mitchell, Tambling, Tuck, and McManus can all play on ball.

In hindsight perhaps I should have selected another small in place of Roughead, but I think there is a fair amount of run, even from Roughead and Milburn.

Pearce and the Schneiderman are 2 of the most exciting crumbing forwards going around atm.

My team averaged 21 games per player last season and so if 2006 is any indication – they will have a good year in 2007. I think Mundy, Butler, Staker, Tuck, Cooney, Pearce, Hansen, Schneider, Tambling, Seaby, and Roughead are all players of the future and are on a positive development curve at the moment. Only Milburn, West, Richardson, McManus, and Lucas have played their best football so far in their careers – but all are still very important to their respective club sides.

B Ben Johnson - Darren Glass - Lindsay Gilbee
HB Grant Birchall - Sam Fisher - Dane Swan
C Heath Black - Cameron Ling - Brent Stanton
HF Brad Johnson (c) - Nick Riewoldt - Brent Harvey
F James Bartel - Ryan Murphy - Paul Chapman
R Troy Simmonds - Simon Black (vc) - Joel Corey
IC Hamish McIntosh - Heath Scotland - Michael Doughty - Matt Egan

I drafted with best available in mind pretty much the whole way through, so I'm thoroughly stoked with my team. The real strength of this team, much like MD, is the flexibility, particularly the extent of midfield rotations. A lot of my players love to play on ball, but are still natural defenders or forwards. In part this is because of their youth and athleticism. My main weakness is that I do have only 2 genuine tall forwards in my line up, but Simmonds and McIntosh are both accomplished forwards as well. Other than that, my structure is pretty tight, with quality inside and outside mids, a great balance of height and pace. Riewoldt and Johnson were both in the top 10 goalkickers last season and are sure to get support from Ryan Murphy, a kid I've been very excited about for a while and Paul Chapman is sure to be pressing AA selectors again. The midfield is very solid with Simon Black providing the lead, supported by Corey, Bartel, Stanton, Ling, Heath Black, Scotland and Dogger all providing lots of run and winning a lot of a possessions. My backline is stapled tight with AA FB Glass supported by the aggressive run of Johnson, Gilbee and Swan, with young Sam Fisher, Grant Birchall and Matt Egan winning a lot of their own ball and creating a lot of defensive pressure.

FF Dale Thomas - Brendan Fevola - Michael O'Loughlin
HF Jason Akermanis - Barry Hall - Nathan Bock
C Brent Reilly - Tyson Edwards - Daniel Giansiracusa
HB Michael Braun - Justin Koschitzke - Andrew Walker
FB Scott Stevens - Mal Michael - Heath Shaw

1R Ben Hudson - Nick Dal Santo - Andrew Embley

Int. Richard Douglas - Tom Hislop - Mitch Clark - Jordan Russell

Strength is most definately the forward line. A running defence could work well, although not as strong defensively as others. Midfield is workman like, but should combine well with a structure similar to that of the Crows (although with the help of a decent forward line, could be more dominant than that). Can easily kick a winning score, but getting the ball there will prove to be the hard part.

The biggest strength of this team is its depth with an extremely potent and deep midfield rotation as well as a promising back-up ruckman and a strong medium-tall defender on the bench. There is not as much depth in the forward line but there is the option of having someone like a Whitnall, Johncock or a resting ruckman into the forward line for spurts. Matthew Lloyd is likely to have a very big season carrying the Essendon forward line and similar to the set up at the Bombers there is a fairly inexperienced but promsing line-up around him.

I paid particular concern with creating a lot of run out of the backline and have a good mix of tall and small defenders that can generate some run, as well as a couple of big guys that are defensive 'rocks'.

I also have two of the most exciting new prospects in the AFL - Hawkins and Gibbs - and I have full confidence that each will slot beautifully in the league and feature prominently considering their respective clubs needs.

B Troy Selwood- Glenn Archer - Nathan Foley

HB Nathan Van Berlo - Adam Hunter - Brent Guerra

C Brett Burton - Josh Carr - Scott Thompson

HF Aaron Davey - Adam Goodes - Beau Waters

FF Gary Ablett - Fergus Watts - Paul Medhurst

FOLL Luke Darcy - Brett Kirk - Troy Cook

I/C Jared Brennan - Cameron Cloke - Joel Selwood

My team is relativly young, with a few experinced players in there. My team is pretty speedy, thats why i picked most of the players, because of their speed. With Davey, Burton, VanBerlo and Ablett. I am also missing a player on the bench. My midfielders have alot of expericence in Kirk, Cook and Josh Carr, all verteran's of the game, with the ruck dual of Darcy the veteran and the up and comer Cam Cloke, it looks a settled side, but inexperienced

FF: Andrew Lovett Fraser Gehrig Anthony Rocca
RR: Brendan Lade Chris Judd Luke Power

Bench: Simon Prestigiacomo Michael Rischitelli Steven Salopek Paul Hasleby

It's a pretty even side. The part of the team that stands out most is the midfield. Judd, Power, Goodwin, McLean and Peake- along with Salopek and Hasleby on the bench make it a pretty good midfield. Peake is a very underated player. very quick and is very explosive like Judd. McLean is going to have a very good year in 2007 I feel. He is going to be a very good player. Judd is probably the best player in the competition. Not much I can say that hasn't been said about him. Goodwin and Power will win the ball all day and use it well. Brendan Lade is probably the equal best ruckman gonig around. Can go forward and kick goals if needed, gets tonnes of possesions around the ground and more importantly is a quality tap ruckman.

The backline is a pretty solid unit. McPharlin is at FB and Prestigiacomo can also go there if needed off the bench. Rooke can play on tall and samll.. in my side he is there for playing on the smalls. Raines and Rooke can swap places if needed. My side is pretty flexible because of the players I have... Croad, McPharlin and others can play both ends. Johnson is a rising star. Is a perfect sweeper at the back. Blocks the hole. Is going to be a star. Gram prodives great rebounding out of the 50 as does Raines. Both run and carry the ball well and can defend properley. Bolton was in the 2006 All-Aus side and will probaly go close again in 2007.

My forward line is solid. the 2 Sydney players there in Buchanon and O'Keefe are very good players with O'Keefer being awarded all-australian status in 2006. He is a vey good lea-up player and acts as a 3rd/4th forward but also a small as well. Very hard to match up on. Buchanon is a sneaky player and will bang some handy goals in. Also racks the possessions up and sets up play gonig forward. Croad can be used back but I have decideed his marking is an asset at CHF. Very mobile and hopefully he will tap into his big amount of potential even more in 2007. Gehrig and Rocca are both POWERHOUSE forwards who are very very strong. Gehrig is a big goalscorer and Rocca is a massive kick who just needs to get a injury re-season under his belt. Lovett is asmall goalsneak who has great potenital but is lakcking consistency just like most small-forwards. Hopefully as he matures he will become more consistent.

On the bench is Presti, Ristichelli - he is a very good emerging utility who can play down back, midfield and forward. Handy 3rd forward. Still young. Hasleby is a great palyer... couldn't fit him into the starting 18 but will do a good job relieving the other midfielders. Salopek is a young gun who is probably gonig to have a big 2007.

B: James Clement - Brian Harris - Matthew Whelan

HB: Jordon McMahon - Jared Rivers - Mark Nicoski

C: Nigel Lappin - Luke Hodge - Farren Ray

HF: Kayne Pettifer - Jonathon Brown - Robert Murphy

F: Mark Williams - David Neitz - Nathan Buckley (c)

R: Aaron Sandilands - Lenny Hayes - Daniel Cross

I: Jamie Charman - Mark Coughlan - Andrew Swallow - Matthew Boyd

I emphasised structure with my drafting and deliberately drafted to positions rather than best available right from the outset to make sure I had strength all the way across the ground, and I think I did pretty well. I made sure that I had a player to fill every role, eg tagger: Boyd, small rebounding defender: Nicoski, etc. I also aimed to have a good mix of young, established and experienced players in my team. Buckley, Lappin, Neitz, Hayes and Clement are all experienced star players, capable of bringing consistancy and leadership to the side, whilst my younger players in Swallow, Sandilands, Ray, Nicoski etc still have plenty of upside. I think I ended up with a team that is pretty strong across the board. I feel my ruck duo, in particular, is amongst the strongest in the competition. The only real weakness my side has is that I picked a few players who had injury interrupted years recently, which may or may not work against me this year.

Thanks to Mad Dog for the invite. As there is only 10 teams, there is a great spread of quality across all of them. As this is for 2007 structure predominantly, I have ummed and aahed and come up with a winner.

Dandy Go has the spine covered with players who actually play in those key positions the majority of the time. Also has the luxury of having two star ruckman in the side, strong and versatile backline where Clement can take the prime role is need be, rebound off halfback, star centreline, dominant CHF and two x factor half forwards who can take a game apart. Ordinarily I would be worried about two veterans in the forward line but for 07, it would be a winner. Nobody stronger one on one than Buckley in a forward pocket, Neitz won't have to be the only target and Williams will have them all guessing whether the ball is going to come in fast on a lead or go over his head to Neitz or Buckley for a body on body contest.

Others who came really close include crowsarethebest, kimi rocks and Kung Fu.

Nice effort by all 10 though.

Cheers

Dandy Go by a mile for mine. That side would flog any other side on the park!
VicCrow...how the hell have you left James Mcdonald out of your side for Gibbs.
Gibbs will be a freak - no doubt!! Doubt he will start centre, and very unlikely he could perform as consistently as McDonald did last season (and i cant see McDonald deteriorating to much this yr!)

Dandygo's team looks great if can get them on the park in '07, but i'd reckon nearly every one of those blokes spent time on the injury list last year, quite a few for significant parts of the season - Murphy, Lappin, Brown, Charman, Hayes, Whelan. Too risky to put my money on for '07.

Kung Fu for mine.

Gibbs didn't take McDonald's spot in my starting 18, Jude Bolton did. It's just a midfield rotation though so I don't really think the starters in the midfield (when I expect them all to be solid to strong performers this year) should have such a huge bearing.
Does it not say more for the depth of my midfield that I actually have someone like McDonald on the bench? ;)

Precisely my worry. I managed to get several star players cheaply thanks to injury in 06, but I'm well aware that this could work against me. I guess we'll see as the season goes on.

Just looking at his list he didn't do a bad job at all. For a while I thought he was a bit of a bunny in this game but he did pretty well when he was around. His only bad pick was Nathan D Brown because he'll struggle to get a game this year.

I think turbo's team looks OK precisely because he didn't make any picks in the final rounds and doesn't have any perceived gaps.

My team would tear up!

Maric and Gardiner on the bench, but both could be used as forward options. Peter Everitt getting the ball down to the likes of Kerr, Cousins and Deledio....ummm yes please!

I give this side 11/10.

You're team on paper looks good. But when the ball goes to ground level in the forward line you will get killed.

Coggs out for the season with an ACL.......ouch

Dandy_GO's gamble does not seem to bode well. J Brown might need minor surgery as well.

Even so, Brown's longevity is always of concern.

2000 - 13 games, 19 years old on 29-October-1981
2001 - 25 games, 20
2002 - 19 games, 21
2003 - 19 games, 22
2004 - 17 games, 23
2005 - 14 games, 24
2006 - 10 games, 25
2007 - ?? games, 26

Injuries such as the ones he's been suffering in recent years - OP, stress fractures of the hip, knee fracture - tend to accumulate on overall fitness rather than be fully recoverable.

Unless Lethal and the Lions staff encourage him to change his bash and crash style he'll end up like Dermie - a broken down dud by the time he's 28-30 when he should be at the peak of his powers.

He's too valuable - for both Brisbane and Dandy_GO ;) - to have sitting in the treatment room for half a season or more.

This will be most interesting to look at when the season ends. Hopefully there'll be more people to vote as well because the board is relatively quiet at this time of year.
