With some trade speculation beginning to swirl around, what do guys think of Farren Ray? Is there a place for him in the Purple Horde???

According to the Age today the club certainly think so. Unless the Age's source is bigfooty as they did mention the Murphy for Ray idea.

Very likely is bigfooty...

I suggest Polak for Ray last year to the Doggie supporters....They laughed.

No doubt probalby wish they did it now.

Farren was highly touted as a junior yet if I can remember correctly there was some concern over his disposal. If he was to be put on the table for Ryan Murphy I would seriously consider it. He would be a good addition to the rotation and one I believe could be of benefit to the club in the future. Ryley Dunn I believe will become that in and under midfielder the club needs and Foster has shown he has what it takes to get the ball. Ibbo in my opinion will still be a better player for the club than Peake and Brock has shown he has some talent across the middle/wing. Things aren't looking as bad as many made out in regards to the young midfielders the club has. Get in Palmer/Matsen and I would be very happy going forward that the squad has what it takes.

I don't want to shut you down, your free talk about potential trades with out ridicule on your own board. But Ray has shown so much more then Ryan Murphy has at AFL level. It wouldn't be a straight swap, and Ray wouldn't last past pick 1 in the PSD.

You put Ray in a team with out so many outside midfielders like us (Eagleton, McMahon, Giansiracusa, Power, Cross, Griffen) and he would shine.

Excellent Summary... That just answered my question...

So why is it that Dogs supporters get frustrated with this guy so much? Does anyone know? Does he have some bad game habits?

Could be a more than fair straight swap when you think about what the Bullies actually require though, give up a small midfielder (which you've got plenty of) and gain a KPP with obvious potential which you guys really need! I think the Dogs would be nuts to pass that up!

Your opinion is clouded by what you paid for the guy.

Take the fact you coughed up pick 4 for him out of your mind, then consider his worth.

Bad habits are that he slips off tackles, foot skills are questionable, but is a very good kick for goal both on the run and from a set shot. He also tends to kick more on his left foot than he should and makes poor decisions with the ball.ie. takes the wrong option.

His positives are that his intensity has improved this year, is very strong overhead and has excellent endurance.

Personally I would love to keep him as he has great scope for improvement as he was a relatively late starter and we will probably not see his best for atleast another 2 or 3 seasons.

Na not true. I can't see the dogs moving forward with so many similar players. Ray's 2nd half of the season convinced me we need him to stay. I've seen him tear the odd game apart in sections. Murphy has never done this.

Regardless of his situation with the team, he is worth more value then Murphy. Its not really debatable as much as it is fact. If it was a straight swap the dogs would get bent over, and that would turn a lot of doggie supporters off signing up next year.

It certainly is worth consideration. Can you summarise Murphy for me? Ray could be potentially a very good player. At times looks too laconic and almost half-hearted in application. He is very capable though of a 'big' match. Unfortuanely for us/him and others, we have too many players with his attributes.

I think you are being unfair. Ray is someone I would not want to let go. Farren Ray will develop into a very good footballer and I hope he stays at the Bullies. His marking above his head is good and I think once he develops a little more and gains more core strength he will be very handy.

Lets face it, if Ryan Murphy was any good you would not want him to leave.

I noticed that when he was playing for the WA under 18's in the championships a few years back. Thought he may have had an injury but he continues to use it excessively.

We want to trade the guy actually for the complete opposite reason.
Most realised Polak's ability yet again couldn't break into the side due to McPharlin and Pavlich running around.

The longer is on our list the more his value drop's and the more likely we are to be riped off as he goes on to star at another club.

While I see where you are coming from I wasn't saying I believe it would I happen I was more talking to the assumption both clubs put those player on the table. See while I believe Ray is a better player at this stage what Murphy has shown at WAFL level and last year for the club is what the Bulldogs require and would be a perfect addition while Ray would also boost the needs of the Fremantle Football Club.

I would be happy either way. Mind you the Bulldogs will want more for Ray than just Murphy, thats where the fun begins ;)

Hindsight is a wonderful thing...

Farren Ray was coming off an awesome 2 months and he smashed Collingwood in the first final. Polak was hanging by a thread at Fremantle. Ray just didn't come on this year! Geez Polak would have been good at the Bulldogs!

Could have really gone either way though! I'm glad Polak came good!

From that statement you obviously you dont watch the Bulldogs play a lot. As someone who does he would have only made a very minimal impact with us. Unless Polak could have played a crash and bash role in the forward line, as a hard running midfielder or as a competent ruckman his efforts would have been wasted with us this year.

So you want to star for someone else.....

You guys finished 12th? Yet this guy, who you think will star for someone else is required?

Our forward line is not the problem though and most rate Campbell ahead of Murphy in the future so in effect if the right trade comes along in which Freo can help boost a weakness in which they have of course they will jump on it.

The Bulldogs have a need for forwards, KPP in fact and Murphy may be someone they look at. Fremantle would like to bolster their midfield so someone along the lines of a Ray would interest the club. Of course this could all be just speculation due to both players not being from the state in which they are playing in at the moment and both remain at their clubs in the future.

Id be looking at trying to get matt moody at the club before farren ray, both ray and moody want to come home, both IMO are of the same ability, difference we wouldnt have to give up as much to get moody.

I'd be happy with Farren Ray & Dogs 6th pick & 3rd rounder

for

Ryan Murphy & Freo's 7th pick
