now the dust has settled we might come out of the farren ray debackle alright, how many people could honestly say on rays form that he could
hold a spot on any first, twenty two, on any afl list. i still think he is a dud but i hope that i am proved wrong

i think you're being a bit harsh on Farren, i'd say he'd easily be in most sides best 22.. (he was getting a game at the dogs and they are a top 4 side)

i'm confident Farren will offer something St.Kilda, definitely not writing him off yet.

Ray was getting a gig with a team that had about 6 other players very similar to him. We have about 2 of his type at St Kilda. Maybe Gram and Dal, outside mids who get the ball given to him.

So I think he'll play better in our team, as he'll be more of a focus than he was at the Dogs.

Can see him being named on the HBF in replacement of Gram who will move to the wing.

Probably a disappointment for the Dogs at pick 4, although not a great draft year with Sylvia a priority pick, Kepler Bradley at 6, Tenace at 7, Raph at 8, Trotter and Dunn and 9 and 10. The top 20 also featured Fergus Watts and 3 guys who have hardly played a game.

Ray plus a developing ruckman (Stanley) is good value for mine for pick 31. 75 game run machine - would like a few more.

I guess we watch the progress of Jordan Roughead as well as Ray & Stanley.

Will be interesting Squizz but it's possible we would have gone for Heyne at pick 31 anyway? He was predicted to go 20 - 30.

I guess without Ray, we would have used 13 on a mid and the whole order would have changed.

Looking forward to seeing how it all pans out

Farren Ray debacle?

Calm down Gilbert.

Squizzy, considering we got Heyne with our third round pick when many considered him to go a round earlier perhaps the better comparison would be Stanley and Roughead.

But it's best not to deal in hypotheticals. It's frustrating enough being a Saints supporter without having to compare players we might have recruited had the draft and trading week gone differently.

Sorry, can't resist. Dal is not actually an outside player. He's an inside player. At his best in heavy traffic. I know I'm off topic, but just have to throw that in. Joey is an outside player.

You guys did well to get Ray at pick 31, I believe the Dogs did well to get Roughead (they rated him top 20). Win/win guys and good luck with next season. :thumbsu:

Look at it this way. We were going to take Stanley at 31 anyway. So we pretty much bagged us Ray for free. :thumbsu:

Stanley or Heyne, who was touted by Burgatron as a potential top 20 pick?

Noticed the comments on saints.com.au:

"Touted as a potential first-round pick, Heyne had to wait until pick 48 in the third round before St Kilda recruiting manager John Peake read his name.

"I wondered if I even nominated for the draft. Everyone spoke to me and said I'd be between 15 and 30-odd but I'm happy to be down here and it's great," he said."
