Congrats on a good win guys.

As a Farren Ray knocker throughout 08', I thought I'd be first to ring his praise on a good game tonight. Showed a lot of tenacity throughout the game, a trait which wasn't his greatest attribute at the doggies. Picked up a lot of possessions, ran hard and kicked to advantage on numerous occasions. Hopefully he continues to impress for the Sainters

Ray was very good. There were so many positives about our game I thought.
Gilbert, Dal Santo, Gardiner, Ball, Kosi, Ray all played exceptionally well.
Add to this the fact that Roo, Goddard, Gram were all virtually hobbling around half injured.
Throw Hayes in the mix and you have to say we look pretty good for 09.
Well done saints!

He had a poor first quarter, but a lot of our guys did. He was quite good after.

My big criticism is he could put his body on the line a little more. Few times he could've laid a sheperd and didn't. Also (and this is another common element) on the mark the umpire would call play on multiple times and he'd stand there with a lost look on his face.

But all in all, a good start

Good decsion making tonight as well.

I think your completley off the mark Goodie, never been a critiscm for mine, went back with the flight a few times, once when Barry Hall was runnign at him as well.

You misread my post, few times he was running alongside the ball carrier and didn't lay a sheperd. Not questioning his courage with the ball in the air, just would've liked to see him do a bit more to protect the player with the ball.

I wasn't too happy about Ray being drafted but this is a new look Farren Ray. His disposal and courage was unquestionable last night. Something that you wouldn't say were his strengths at teh Doggies.

Ray was great last night.
I like that he adds pace to our midfield and is able to break the lines.
I was quite impressed with his kicking, is good on both sides of his feet.
I think he will be a quality addition to our side.
Overall i don't think it was our best game but its good to start the season with a win.
Will have to play much better next week if we are going to beat the Crows.
What i liked the most last night was seeing big Gardie running around.
He looks fit and was impressive with his work around the ground

Yeah very impressive. I think on face value the trade was dead even but if he keeps playing like this then it's a very good pickup for us.

He showed a bit today. I liked him as a doggie put at times he was incredibly frustrating. Hopefully for the saints he gets it right and plays like he did last night every week. If not then I can see saints fans echoing my sentiments.

Hey if we were going to take Heyne at pick 32, then we basically got Ray for free...

Was one of our best last night. And should be receiving just as much applause as Dawson is for his job on Hall.

How good was that mark at the end of the 3rd I think? Whoever still doubts his courage should surely now see the light.

Some good slick handballs down back in traffic, a couple of probing kicks on his non-preferred, and a beautiful 50m pass on his right. Hopefully he can produce that sort of effort consistently, as the run of Ball (previously restricted) and Ray gave us an extra dimension.

I thought his decision making at times was fair Rough.

He took a mark in the guts in the 3rd quarter, wheeled around to play on and took off in a direction where no one had led to. He seems to love kicking on his left foot, when he could use his right, which was a knock on him at the Dogs.

However he did impress me with his efforts after 1/2 time and seems read the play quite nicely. A very solid first up performance.

I think that is a fair call but correct me if I'm wrong he is a left footer so his first instinct is always going to be to put himself in a position to kick on his left rather than his right, unlike some blokes in our team at least he can kick on his other side.

I think he got 100 points in DT - that's better than Goddard did. I know that DT isn't necessarily an indication of greatness, but still...

He's a natural right footer.

DT points is simply a method of summarising statistics. It can be distorted for example if you get a lot of the ball and then turn it over you still get good dreamteam points.

However I don't consider that there was anything particualarly good that Goddard was doing or that Ray wann't doing that would stop it being a good comparison in this case.
Well done Farren Ray.

Yeah, I must have misread it as well - i thought you were questioning his courage and that he failed to put his body on the line!.

That running back mark were he never took his eye off the ball I think squashes that argument.

Poor wording on my part. In my defence I did say 'a little more'

Not asking for a Dawson style clean-up, just that he either offers a valid option when travelling with the ball carrier or he tries to buy him a little more time

Now that you mention it, I remember yelling "lay the freakin shepherd" a couple of times during the game (although not sure Ray was the culprit).

Good to see him going well, he couldn't really get it all together at the dogs maybe the new surroundings will spur him on to become a consistent player
