Are there any particular cafe's or coffee shops that you frequent quite a bit? Do you like latte's, short blacks, cappuchino's, hot chocolates, macchiatos etc?

My favourite places in Melbourne are in Lygon Street...either Cafe Notturno's or Cafe Trevi just enjoy sitting outside with a group of friends and having a latte' or hot chocolate. It is very relaxing especially when I feel like a having a lazy moment! Another one I don't mind going to which is closer to home is Sam's Cafe in Keilor Road, Niddrie.

Coffee Shops > Cafes, especially when in Amsterdam ;)

When having coffee I either have a long macchiato or a latte with an extra shot of espresso. At home I just make a long black cos I can't be arsed with frothing milk.

Cibo. Cant beat it.

A coffee chain which started from the Cibo Ristorante in North Adelaide (my favourite restuarant in Adelaide). They do excellent coffees and have the BEST gelati you could ever imagine.

Knights Cafe in Smith Street Naracoorte is pretty good too, used to make the best steak sandwiches there a few years ago, Joy and John have sold up but the name still remains, huge Collingwood fans they were too.

Cibo are a good chain, but my personal preference is un caffe bar as a chain. Illy coffee rocks. For a small cafe, there is one in Unley that is awesome, but the name completely escapes me for now. Will edit when I remember it.

Spats Cafe?

Warrenglen Cafe in Warrandyte (VIC). Attached to a nursery with the most incredible gardens.

Also, "The Verandah View" near the summit of Mount Dandenong. You can sit on the old-style verandah, in a cane chair, with one of the blankets supplied, sipping your coffee (or whatever).

I live and work in Subiaco in WA and it is blessed with a multitude of magnificent Cafe's/Coffee Shops. My fav coffee shop is probably Brew Ha, followed closely by Cafe Cafe by the subi train station.

In Leederville Greens cafe is the bomb! The funny thing, however, is every time I go there John Kizon seems to be there!

Heaps in the city, but there's something about food when away from the city. The lack of smog? Relaxed atmosphere? Friendlier people? Who knows? But cafes always seem to be better out of town.

A few favourites:

- Merricks General Store in Flinders
- Avocade Blue in Mornington
- Orange in Barwon Heads
- Qdos in Lorne
- Harvest in Healesville

MJ 40's in Essendon. If you can deal with the pungent stench of dirty Essendon people eminating from Windy Hill, which is literally 50 metres away. After a night on the sauce, their big breakfast is the greatest thing on the planet. Good coffee for a suburban cafe.

Good lunch menu, too.

Yarraville - Cafe Fidama and a special mention for you smokers The Cut Paw Paw

North Queensland - The Sand Bar - Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island :thumbsu:

Yarraville is a treasure of Melbourne. Been gentrified since my childhood when it was a slum.

While not strictly a cafe (it's a bar, which serves coffee, and the wine list is as thick as a copy of The Guinness Book of Records), Acqua e Vino, in the main street of Yarraville is just the most awesome venue. Like going back 50-60 years in time. Amazing.
