Looking back at some of these games you can see that we could play an exciting brand of footy even though at the time we were in no mans land as a club and there was so much change happening.

we had a solid best 22. Issue was we had no depth. The year ratts got sacked was coz we had some injuries. Then when mick came we moved on some of the talent that we had most likely because they didn’t see eye to eye and our results quickly dropped off from there.

as Murphy said in the podcast, the top teams bat deep when they have injuries, we didnt

Yeah I agree. We had some seriously good footballers.

Seen a lot of great moments following the Blues. Was there for the GF's, 79-95. But the one memory I'll always cherish was that day in 1994, Princes Park, vs West Coast, round 22. Craig Bradley's insane running goal was the highlight, but really the entire day will live with me forever.

Not just because of what happened that day, but because Round 22, 1994 at our spiritual home represents everything that was great about following the blues in those days. A packed (genuine) home ground. Tribal. Full of our brothers and sisters, together as one. Sitting in the Social Club, just behind the goals. Enjoying our home, but also aware that this wasn't going to last forever. Other clubs had left their suburban grounds, and we knew we would inevitably go that way too.

I remember when we ran out onto the ground at the start of the game. The cheer squad had the banner up, and there was a West Coast supporter in front of me who said 'Banners? We only have those for big games back home' to which I replied, without trying to be a smartarse in any way, 'every game here's a big game'. He scoffed, but I knew it was true. Carlton games at home were big.

When I think of what the football was like when we used to play at PP, this is the game I tend to remember. It had everything: huge partisan crowd. Incredible champions of the club: SOS, Braddles, Sticks, Kouta, Madden, Williams... great opponent, an iconic moment, and of course, a Carlton win. A couple of beers in the social club after the game, before walking back along Royal Parade to the city, and then home.

Apparently the crowd was 28k. Felt like 80k.

God it was good.

Ah, Braddles. So many great memories from him. When in the '95 Grannie Geelong had thrown everything at us in the first 5 minutes, trying to physically intimidate us with crude hit after crude hit, and nerves where high, Braddles got the ball and calmly slotted our first. Then jogged back towards the middle and gave his teammates a little wink to say 'we're good boys, let's just play our game and we've got this'. And from that point on, we dominated.

And that game against North (I think) at Docklands, towards the end of his career, when he took a mark at half forward and figured he'd keep juggling it from one hand to the other, all the while running towards goal, figuring he'd try to crib an extra 20 meters to put him within range. Umpire rightly deemed him to be in control of it, so paid the mark from where he first touched it, but showed the kind of player he was: so in command of his skills and the game that he felt confident to try shit like this. He was truly one of the greats.

May or may not have walked around the ground during the third when Lloyd was going bananas.

Never any doubt though.

Going ballistic with Dad and Sister at the siren (I’m not crying you’re crying), while seeing my Essendon supporting math teach balling her eyes out trying to escape the G.

And the chaos on the train home from Jolimont, the scum supporters getting more irate with every rendition of the song. One made the mistake of telling an old Greek fella that we’d get smashed the next week - “maybe mate, but at least we’ll ****ing be there!!” And then straight into the song again.

What a day to be alive

Well said. All of that and witnessing perhaps the greatest quarter of football ever played by an individual.

1987 second semi at Waverley where we demolished the Hawks in the last quarter after being behind all day.
Sticks kicked a straight drop punt from a tight angle (no helicopters this day) in the last as we ran all over the top of them.
They’d beaten us twice that year and in the gf the previous year.
The late great Mark Naley was the difference and we took the momentum into the gf two weeks later.
Great win.

First time I cried tears of joy. I couldn't believe we came back. Top 3 moments of the Malthouse era that's for sure.

Also Tom Bell. When he was on it was a thing of beauty. If our boys now had a bit of his aggressiveness and attack on the footy we'd be taken alot more seriously by the rest of the comp.

The shepherd
The against the odds fight for the ball
The chain of handpasses to get us into space
The unexpected fist to the ball to stop a certain oppo mark in the forward line

The regulation drop punt straight through the sticks
The speccie
The gut running to create an option for a teammate
The congratulations to a player who didn't kick a goal but worked their butt off to get the ball to someone who could
The kick or handpass that the player saw as a possibility when most of us didn't
The run with ball bounces that have your heart in your mouth
The coast to coast
The halving the contest and getting the ball over the boundary line in the back half
