Reading that thread about the pre game entertainment this week, it brought back a few memories of some of the most magic moments I remember from my childhood. In order, they are:

'YAAAABAAAALETT.... THEY DIDNT FLY THAT HIGH WHEN THEY WENT TO THE MOON!'
- Rex Hunt's call on Ablett's mark over Gary Pert at the MCG, which was immortalised in the Ablett song.

'BILLY, YOU ARE KING OF GEELONG!'
- Can't remember who said it, but it was fantastic!

'SOME MAGIC FROM RONNIE!'
- Was said a couple of times, but I loved it. When I wasn't pretending to be Gary Ablett, every checkside shot at goal I had, I used this one.

Was wondering what fond memories you guys have?

"A snap by Pickering, in the goalsquare - it clears Brownless and Ablett. Here's Gazza the great man, left foot snap! Oh don't tell me! What a goal by Gazza!"
"The man is a genius."

"Oh John Barnes! His second 'mark of the day', Barnes."
"Why play on?"
"Here's Couch - that's the way they play, Geelong - here they go!"
"Riccardi around the outer side - listen to the roar!"

"He shoots towards goal, what more can you say ?" - Sandy Roberts about Ablett Snr v Collingwood in 1989[?] at the MCG

Beat me to it, JUBJUB!

Love those two. Your first one (Essendon 1995), I can just remember Ablett with both hands in the air whilst sitting on the ground.

"Gardiner, plays on, he's caught! HOLDING THE BALL!"

"Byrnes on the left, MISSES!"

"Kingsley, lining up, 20m out, directly infront. Comes in....OUT ON THE FULL!"
I must admit I laughed.

South Australia v Victoria, 1994

"It's back there towards goal. Wanganeen and Ablett, two of the greats of the game! Ablett - over the top - don't tell me Gary! He's kicked it! He's got it - Ablett's kicked his fourth! Unbelievable!"

'Only Lappin to beat...ONLY LAPPIN!'

KRock's call of his goal Friday was great as well. Was running through it before the ball was even bounced.

Watching that replay makes you wonder about Jnr being a better player. As great as he is the old man is one of the best if not the best of all time.
Yes. I don't know where that segment of the video ends, but in the following finals series (1989) I believe Ablett played the best football of all time. It was simply superhuman.

"Any score will do...Geelong are in the Grand Final" - Dennis, PF 1994.

"This is why they're favourite to be premiers" - Dennis, QF 2007, when we had that play from full back to full forward that was so clean.

"When are Geelong going to declare and send Port Adelaide in" - text message Bewsy received from a mate during the GF.

"Chapman just took advantage of Tredrea taking a bow there" - boundary rider on K-Rock after Chappy took that mark.

well I laughed the other night during the North game when Dennis said, "Looks like geelong are using the bald strategy up forward right now"

I thinbk Varcoe, ablett and chappy were up in our forward line at that point

Does it make our forward line more aerodynamic? Less wind resistance through the locks and all that - what would Matty Scarlett say?

I was trying to remember that one.

Cracker.

cant remember word for word but it was Cometti earlier in the year i think and he was saying how Didak and Steve Johnson were two cleverest footballers around. McAvaney asked what would happen if you left them in a room together and Cometti replied something like "I think the room would be gone, they'd be gone too...all that would remain is two pairs of footy boots".

dunno why but i found that incredibly funny :thumbsu:

"That's a party trick, not a mark" Dennis Commetti 89 Prelim.

"Statisticly, Geelong playing a bald forward line at the moment" Commetti again last Friday night.

Good thread
