Forget what they were talking about, we know nothing of this guy, his wife or his relationship. We're not in a position to judge.

If that would be your genuine reaction to being the victim of something like this, and I sincerely doubt it would be, then you're not too fussed about your rights.

Forget the specifics of this individual case. It's not the issue. The guy may well be an absolute turd of a human.

But we're certainly not in a position to judge that, and despite what she thinks, neither is this woman.

Random people have no right to take covert photographs of somebody, and post it along with defaming statements for millions of people to see. This bloke has rights.

If you condone this, you condone absolutely any random person making an arbitrary judgement in any conversation of yours they've eavesdropped on, and taking this action.

Is this the sort of world we want to live in? Covering our mouths and whispering any time we're in public, because every random ****wit is a potential member of the thought police?

Perhaps. I just think its a pretty big issue. It would have been seen by millions, now tabloid rags have picked it up and are running with it too.

Think it shows what can happen when the power of the Internet is used in certain ways. The web is still evolving and lines are being blurred, i dont think we're right across the potential consequences from a moral and even legal point of view. There's a lot of scope for people lives to be damaged or completely ruined.

It was previously only the old school media who had the power to do this kind of stuff, and as many times as they've stepped outside laws and their codes of conduct etc, the perpetrators are easier to identify. Now every person on the train can do it. Scary.

Things like this can become trends. Particularly when you're dealing with young people who are still a little unwise and don't recognise the full consequences of their actions - of which there's a shitload on FB and twitter etc.

There is a difference between a photo used for deliberate public shaming and posting a photo with friends or incidentally having unknown people in the background of a shot.

The first is normally reserved for the media to use on celebrity (equally as wrong in my opinion).

I wouldn't be happy to go to jail after I'd committed a crime, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't deserve it. I'm sure this guy isn't happy that there's a photo exposing him as cheating on his wife, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve it.



This is the only issue I have with the photo. If it's true, then it's fair game AFAIC.

Bunk Moreland raises some salient points - His(?)/Her(?) initial outburst, however, was a little over the top and I think put people off-side.

I certainly have had issues with people who have put photos of me online before without any semblance of permission asked - I don't have a facebook account so there are probably more of me out there that I don't know about, but atleast they are not able to be 'tagged' to any account of mine, I guess....

I find myself ambivilant in this situation only because of what was alleged to have taken place... If the guy is bragging about cheating, he probably deserves some comeuppance, but on reflection the way this woman has gone about it isn't the most productive or pragmatic way to go about it, and if someone was 'outed' and publically embarrassed in a similar manner for something else that I wouldn't have otherwise have a problem with, I probably would have reacted similar to Bunk Moreland...

I stand by my initial post. This is appalling behaviour. It's exactly the same as what tabloid rags and gossip magazines do, and I've heard everybody's opinion of them.

This is a huge infringement on somebody's privacy and rights. If what she did isn't illegal (slander or whatever), it bloody well should be.

I dont know im not a law fan.

But to publish a photo and a potentially career ending story about someone that MAY be true to a quarter of a million people should not be legal.

Its no different to tabloid trash.

I didn't ask whether you'd deserve it, I asked whether you're ok with it happening to anyone and everyone.

And anyway, who decides if you "deserve" it? The random 16yo sitting on the train with their iPhone? Apparently they're in a position to make this judgement of you and your life?

What if his wife is a scheming, lying, manipulative piece of work who'd cheated on him in the past? Would he still deserve it in your arbitrary book?

Forget the specifics of this case. If we get into an argument over whether somebody "deserves" it, it's an absolute grey area. People will justify whatever they want in order to get likes on FB.

This is an extremely basic, extremely serious violation of somebody's rights and privacy.
