Despite his recent misdemeanour off the field, I think there is little doubt that Fev is the best full forward in the competition. He kicks 7 of his 8 goals on one of the most experienced full backs in the game (Michael), while at the other end, Lloyd only manages 4 on a player who has played less than 10 games.

Fev is now the 4th highest goalkicker in the history of our club, with only Kernahan, Vallance & Jesaulenko ahead of him (some pretty handy names there). We must keep Fev at the club, at all costs, because when we finally start our march towards premiership glory (probably 2-3 years away), he will be a key component in us reaching that ultimate goal.

yeh 3 of them cheapies...

Just shows what concentration and a clear mind can do for a player of fev stature...

more good signs was the fact that there was no or little complaints when a ball was bombed to the square instead of lace out...

he also stood out with dedication of his chase to force a turn over...

Fev is a gun. No doubt about it.

But there are times when I could gladly kick him up the arse and send him elsewhere!

He can be exhilirating and he can be frustrating!

Sometimes I love him. Sometimes I hate him!

As for tonight - I loved him! He was great.

May be one of the most expereienced full backs in the game, but come on, michael is without a doubt one of the worst players going around today, fev did the same thing last year against essendont. he's been less than useful up until tonight and is still one of the most, if not the most inconsistent full forward in the league!

Essendon supporters keep telling anyone that will listen that having both Michael & Fletcher in defence makes a huge difference.

we both know they are delusional and "Magnificence" i completly agree, fev was great! but where was he last week? and the week before? and what is gonna be ur excuse next week when he kicks 2.4 on some hack collingwood defender?!

You know what happened to Fev last week & in Round 1? Lack of decent delivery. Double & triple teamed as well, yet he was far from our worst player in both those games.

This week Judd, Murphy & Stevens win a lot more of the ball, give Fev some quality delivery, reducing the opportunities for the opposition to double & triple team him & he ends up with 8 goals.

FWIW, Jono Brown only kicked 1 goal tonight. Do you think that is because he didn't put in, or could it have something to do with the less than 'silver service' delivery from his teammates, who were under the pump from their opponents?

top post..

i think one of the key factors is that there was no real flooding which is what we can struggle with...lets hope pies don't catch on:D

Fev is a matchwinner and there's not many of those going around.

We definitely have to keep him at Princes Park no matter what.

Surely he can see that there are good times ahead (did you see how pumped he was hugging Judd after Judd kicked his first goal ?), and maybe that will be enough to motivate him to stick to his teetotalling during the season.

Fev played a great game tonight but i think that Knights waited far too long to make the move. Michael is too slow for Fev and is not the right matchup. Ryder is quick enough to go with him and he should have been given the role earlier. Hopefully Knights will start him on Fev next time around as i reckon he will beat him and he will also run him up the ground like he did to him in the final qtr tonight.

Also, 3 of his 4 behinds were posters.... :o

Good call walshy. You beat me to it. He also gave away a goal to Gibbs in the last quarter as well. He really does seem to lift against Essendon, and as MS said, showed why he is the premier FF in the AFL.

Would be great if he could kick another bag against Collingwood next week.

J. Brown has nothing to do with it. Be a realist and admit Fev has a lot of work to do to live up to his Coleman medal status. I love the bloke just as much as anyone, but he needs to show up week in week and out and really look like he wants to be there before he can move to the next level!

Lets hope he gets some more consistency into his game. Hopefully he can have a good match against the pies this week to back it up. 31st of December 1999 all over again would be nice...:D

On his day, he can be the best FF in the competition. But don't get too excited... let him back up this form first. Because we all know how he turned out last year. Our next two opponents don't have opponents for him, or at least suitable ones so he might get the goalkicking lead.

Tell me which FF in the competition has been consistently better than Fev over the last 5 years, bearing in mind Fev's stats over this period:
2003: 63 goals
2004: 66 goals
2005: 49 goals
2006: 84 goals
2007: 59 goals
He is currently sitting second in the Coleman Medal (12 goals), behind Buddy Franklin. Remembering that he has played in a team that has finished 15th, 11th, 16th, 16th, 15th & currently on 0-3 for the season.

yeah, well those stats are pretty telling ey! but unfortunately with our current team he needs to provide more than 3 a week. 4 is more like it. maybe im taking my frustration out on the wrong person? where is our problem then? down back?! we leaked pretty bad tonight!

the best thing Fev did tonight was when he bodied Michael out and took the mark. The ump gave the free kick to Michael. Fev gave the ball back right away, forgot about the umpire, chased and chased until his efforts led to a Carlton goal 30 second later.

that's the Fev we need.

Our half forward line & midfield still don't provide enough defensive pressure. At times it was so easy for Essendon to run the ball through the corridor & set up easy shots on goal. When you consider that the best return from a KP forward against us, so far this season, was Richo's 5 in Round 1, you can see that our defence, particularly our KP defenders, are more than holding their own. We are getting done over by the opposition's running players.

EXACTLY..... damn good post.
seeing the bombers strolling through the middle and then kicking goals annoyed the crap outta me.
Would help though if we had another Waite or recruit a campbell brown or darren glass or someone....
