Coming into Carlton’s final game for 2008 Fev needs to kick 8 goals to get to 100 for the season. With Buddy on 98 at the other end of the ground it's going to be about as exciting as it gets.

8 goals is a big bag, but under these conditions, if anyone can do it, Fev can! Why? Because Fev kicks so many big bags!

So here’s a closer look at Fev's big bags (6+goals) over his career. Obviously the fact that he has kicked more goals this season would suggest that he has kicked more big bags this season too, but it is not necessarily the case (he had more big bags in his 66 goal season in 2004 than in his 84 goal season in 2007).

year games goals BO8 BO7 BO6 total bags
2008 21 92 2 3 2 7
2007 19 59 1 0 2 3
2006 21 84 1 1 2 4
2005 19 49 0 0 0 0
2004 20 66 1 1 3 5
2003 22 63 1 0 1 2
2002 9 13 0 0 0 0
2001 16 27 0 0 0 0
2000 14 26 0 0 0 0
1999 2 0 0 0 0 0
totals 163 479 6 5 10 21

*BO=Bags Of

Interestingly, a third of Fev's big bags have been this year! And before this year, Fev had never kicked more than one BO8 or more than one BO7 in a single season, and yet he's already kicked 3 BO7 and 2 BO8 this year. So far augurs very well for a 3rd BO8.

On the other side of the coin, Fev's 3 BO7 and 2 BO8 this year have all been kicked at the G, while his 2 BO6 were at the Dome. We all know Fev loves the space at the G for kicking his big bags: 4 of his 5 career BO7 were kicked at the G (the 5th was against Adelaide at AAMI) and 4 of his 6 career BO8 were kicked at the G, the other 2 were kicked at the Dome.

The last time Fev kicked a BO8 at the Dome was against Richmond in 2004. Could it be just a co-incidence that 2004 is also the last time we went one win from one game against Hawthorn in a season? That game was also at the Dome (Fev kicked 6 to earn himself 3 Brownlow votes).

Results from season 2004 'The False Dawn' are eerily similar to our results so far this season. We finished 2003 at 15th on the ladder with 4 wins and improved to finish 2004 at 11th with 10 wins. We also finished 2007 at 15th with 4 wins and have so far improved also to 11th on the ladder with 10 wins but this year we still have another game to play.

CFC is vastly improved across the board since 2004 and this is the week to prove it, against a highly favoured opponent.

Fev is in career best form and kicking more big bags than ever, his delivery is as sharp as it's ever been (and still getting better) and with Big Cam and The Kreuze Missile looming as dangerous forward targets we won't allow them to have 3 or 4 players to molest him in every marking contest.

If Buddy kicks his 100 Hawthorn will lose focus just like St Kilda did when Gherig kicked his 100th against Port, that's when we'll jump them and feed Fev lace out! We'll win. Fev will kick his 100 and we'll have 11 wins for the season, one better than we had for 2004. :thumbsu:

I think everyone is getting far too ahead of themselves. 8 goals in a game, against a top team is hard for anyone, let alone Fev. Trust me, nothing more I"d like to see than Fev get his 100th this week, but i think it's too much to ask from anyone.

Buddy will get his. Thylacine will lose 10 grand ;) I dont think fev will get 8 goals, it's just too much to ask for from anyone. Hawks will drop 2 men back on him, Fev'll get crabby coz he's not getting goals, and we'll all get on here on the Monday whinging about it.

whatever happens happens, i just think a lot of Blues fans will be let down by Fev not scoring a bag of goals. Geez he'd be under pressure wouldn't he :o

Go blues. And GOodluck Fev.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

for me, i'd prefer to see a win and i hope Fev prefers that too.

Fev absolutely thrives on pressure and the big stage. I think he'd be more likely to kick a tonne if he need 6+ goals rather than 4. He loves a challenge.

Fev is just one of those players who, if they want something enough, they can get it.

No defender in the game can stop Fev when he's on fire. No one.

Even if he doesnt get the big bag needed, if he kicks 5 he'll match vallences' best ever year at Carlton and go to second space on Carlton's all time goal kicking list in a year, just behind our only centurion, Jezza in 1970. This is a huge achievement in itself:

he's only kicked 8 6 times in his career, but once against Hawthorn - my how times have changed since that match:

seriously guys, Fev is great, but its gonna take a crap load for him to get even close to 8.

Gilham will get first crack at him, and you may laugh,b ut this season and last, he had the least amount of goals kicked against him by his direct opponent (and last year you would notice we rarely went 2or3-on-1)

this year hawthorn play more team orientated, which will see one of hodge, guerra or bateman drop infront of him.

regardless of the outcome, it is going to be very exciting. i have a feeling Fev might play in the middle and try unloading from 50 a fair bit if it starts how i just predicted

I have the faith.... he'll do it....

I have 10 grand to say that Thy wont lose his 10 grand AWG, as if i am not mistaken he made the offer suggesting Buddy wouldn't reach his ton on Friday which of course he wont as the game is played on Saturday:thumbsu:;)

Great effort Blue Yowbes!!!!

I'm sure we all concur, Fev can get there if anyone can! Especially in a highly pressurised situation you would have to admit this is the sort of stage on which Fev thrives..
If only they would have moved the game to the G (which they should have)...

While we all know it's possible it certainly isn't probable but still great to get pumped about .... that post certainly helped!

One other thing Fev has going for him is the determination of a certain Chris Judd who's ability to clear and feed the ball into the forward line surpasses that of POSSIBLY any player to have ever played the game...

Go BLUES, Go FEV..

and whether or not he kicks 100 goals or not... what a fantastic effort!!!

Funny you should mention that, so what is Juddy's take on the situation...

http://carltonfc.com.au/tabid/4311/Default.aspx?newsid=66418

Skipper Chris Judd said from Visy Park on Wednesday that he wouldn't be surprised if the midfielders had a touch of Fev fever.

"It'd be great to see it happen – he's kicked eight goals before this year, so I dare say a few of us will have the blinkers on, going inside the forward 50," he said with a wry grin.

"But the main thing for us is still to perform strongly as a group, and if Fev was to kick eight that'd be the icing on the cake."

Judd said Fevola hadn't issued any order to the midfield.

"Not yet, but he might be issuing a few if the blokes kick it over his head, I reckon."

I would dearly love to see Big Fevola kick the eight goals required to post the magical ton for the season.

However, this is what I see transpiring.

Of late, the Umpires have been pretty hard on Fevola, which has seen him often & understandably frustrated.
So, on the strength of that, I see Fev loosing the plot, loosing his head, abusing an Umpire and then belting the snot out of some low-life scragging Hawk defender. The end result being no ton kicked and Big Fev rubbed out for the first three games next year.

No. I'm just kidding.
Good luck big fella'.:thumbsu:

its not impossible for fev to bag 8, but i just cant see it.

though having said that, all it needs is two pin-point-passes from judd a quarter and fev will do it easy..........wow that sounds better, 2 goals a quarter fev thats all you need do. :thumbsu:
