It has been clear for weeks:
  • Douglas has not been able to run and down on form
  • Hendo has been poor
  • L Thompson is ALWAYS behind his man
  • Danger is NOT fit
  • Wright is not having an impact
But they ALL start.

Players consistently tearing it up in the 2's. Not one could come in?

Dougie: Hard to run when you're on the ground all the time. Where did the good Dougie go?

Hendo: Hard to be good when you're soft

L.Thompson: Been poor

Danger: No shit

Wright: hard to have impact when you're lazy

Douglas gold pass all year

Hendo put back in the side to early

LT not AFL standard

Danger not fit

Wright fails consistently to impact a game

Grigg sub 4-5 weeks in a row when the side is screaming for good skills and footy IQ

M Crouch continually ignored

Lack of courage to play someone like Aitken at HF

Douglas - been our run with player - but should have picked kerridge!

Hendo - I called for him to be dropped as completely out of touch & liability.

L thommo - ok. At least passable & doesn't kick it out if bounds 3x like Shaw!

Danger - we should be resting up forward.

Wright - should be dropped. Waits for opposition to flood back & out of touch.

Who's going to come in though? Hendo and Thompson are some tall shoes to fill. I'm not sure if anyone wants Reilly or Rutten back in.

kedge, Laird and Crouch can come in the centre. But Laird and Kedge, weren't exactly setting the world on fire before they were out of the team.

Really, I feel like the well is pretty dry at the moment.

That said, I feel like softness is a cardinal sin and would love to drop Hendo, LT and Jenkins based on that alone.

We didn't lose this game at the selection table. This thread has been done to death. There really aren't that many players in the SANFL "tearing it up" every week who don't get a shot. See Grigg, Lyons, Cameron, etc.

Really good post, I think the last line is the most important, just have no idea how you can pick and choose when to attack a contest, I have seen all three win hard contests but the amount of times I have seen them stand back just astounds me. I could only imagine what somebody like Fos Williams would say to them in a post game review

Kerridge instead of hendo imo would have made a difference.

Two blokes who I've been massive advocates for but who need to come under scrutiny are Wright and Jenkins.

Wright at his best is a tackler, harasser and lays some pretty handy blocks and screens for his teammates but sadly 'the team thing' doesn't keep you in the side when you've lost all ability to kick further than 35 metres, you make poor decisions constantly by foot even when you do elect to kick and your decision making is shot by hand. Add to that his lack of pace and he's a prime candidate to go.

Jenkins has the attributes but if someone doesn't grab him by the scruff of the neck and show him that he's built like a brick shithouse then this bloke is a lost cause. It's not really evident at first because you look at his stats and they seem to show a decent contribution every week but when you actually focus on him in the contests it's evident how soft he is. When was the last huge tackle you saw him lay? The answer is you didn't. He never tackles. He Corrals players but still allows them plenty of time to offload and hit a target. He never takes contested marks and he so often hangs back off the pack like a small forward waiting for the cheap flick over the top. I'm fine if he's not a contested marker of the footy - not all big blokes are (Lance Franklin in his early years certainly got by ok) but he needs to be prepared to: 1) force himself onto contests and link up further down the ground 2) actually tackle his opponent and 3) use his natural pace to burn off his opponent as I'm fairly confident there's not many talls as quick as him. Just looking every part a soft footballer at the moment and is so far off Kurt Tippett (the man he loves constantly comparing himself to) that it's just not funny.

 .....that's just clearly not true .....give the guy 50 games to show you and feel comfortable that he's not AFL standard

You're just not giving him a chance ..............you have to give players a string of games so us supporters can see he's not up to it

I say play Luke Thompson

No one complained about said selections before the game. Just sayin'. Kings of hindsight.

Wright the only exception but you'd be pushing shit up hill to say that cost us the game.

Grow up and stop making stupid threads.

One minute Henderson is the messiah of our backline ....the next he's a pariah

Can people actually have views on players that don't fluctuate game to game .....sure players have bad games, that's in any sport

Jenkins again i have said ALL YEAR that even when he's been kicking bags of goals and getting plaudits ......he has NO DESIRE to use his 100kg frame offensively ......and NO DESIRE to defend AT ALL
But we have no other option frankly ATS

Luke Thompson ........soft ?????? .....oh cmon how can you say that

Just a great summary ............we too often judge forwrds on goals kicked & it's much more than that as you've outlined so well

Couldn't we say the same thing about your opinion of Shaw who once again proved he can't KICK..........

How was Dmacks first half? Crickets.........

Bingo.

LT seems to have failed but it made absolutely perfect sense to give him a run, from a list management perspective, and I say that as someone who has never been a fan (I think he drops his head too easily and is afraid to make mistakes). He's been on the list for ages. He had, at one point, attracted quite a bit of interest from other clubs. We haven't given him a string of games in forever, and he's bulked up a fair bit since the last time we did (though he's still skinny). Truck's retiring and Hartigan wasn't commanding a spot and was then injured. There was every reason to play him. Best case scenario, he takes the chance and we have either a decent KPD or a trading commodity. Worst case scenario he stinks and we can write him off for good. Unfortunately, it seems like the latter is the case, but that doesn't make W-W a visionary, as his track record is pretty bloody poor overall.

Quit big-noting yourself, W-W. You'd be the worst list manager the league has ever seen.
