I was surprised to see Joseph cut, but I fully support the club's decision to have more late picks in this draft and make the rookies earn their spot.

Though Ellard can go when he's cut from the same cloth as Blackwell and too small to be an AFL player.

People have to remember how much we have turned over our list in previous years. You simply can not delist all of your borderline players in one year. Take a look at Freo, heaps of retirements, handful of delistings and they need to pick up about 10 players in the draft. These draftees all get 2 year deals. If they are duds, they can not be booted without paying out the second year. So next year they need to cut further into the senior players.

Most players we delisted this year were contracted for this year so we had to wait. Delist them and you don't have to delist someone else who still has potential. Each year you need to have a 'most likely' list of players to delist because if you got rid of them all in one year and everyone else does well, then delisting some players is going to anger the supporter base.

We are slowly being conditioned towards the next group of delistees by their failure to nail down a senior spot and others getting ahead of them in the pecking order.
