What a time to be alive

Who comes in who comes out?
Our sides blend Over the past two weeks looks so good. Having graham in over menadue and c Ellis shows us how the right mix in a side can make a difference. We have a good blend and balance ATM.

Team for Geelong

Grimes astbury houli
Vlastuin rance b Ellis
Mcintosh Martin markov
Edwards Riewoldt Rioli
Butler Townsend caddy
Nank cotch Prestia
Lambert grigg graham broad

We have a good mix here. George out for caddy would be my best bet. Side has size everywhere and dash on each line.

Each final we will be different though I feel. Match committee will pick a side that best fits the team we are playing. What are your predictions? Firstly the 22 and the Result.

I have been a supporter of keeping George in the side..but...

He hasn't hit the scoreboard in last 4 weeks.
Graham has come in and has led the charts in pressure acts the last 2 weeks. Very composed. Has to play.
Markov plays a different position and I've liked his run.
Caddy plays forward as does George.
Haven't minded Broad. I like what he brings to the side. Made some errors last week but have to remember last week was only his 9th game and provides cover down back.

Everything seems to point to In: Caddy Out: Castagna

I think the OP is spot on - the team looks balanced, albeit against the recent poor / disinterested opposition. If I was on the Selection Committee, I'd be voting for no change.

Personally, I don't want to see Caddy come in for George. Caddy gives inside grunt and someone to crash packs inside 50. George brings pace. Not like for like. It would throw out the balance. Bolton for Castagna, maybe.

If Caddy comes in, he'd be competing with Towner, Lambert and Edwards. For mine, it's Towner's spot to lose now.

No predictions on result. I'm gunna just enjoy what's in front of me.

Id just go Broad for Caddy. Their weakness is that they are slow and cant defend fast ball movement. Broad isnt needed they dont have anyone for him to match up on. Astbury goes to tomahawk, rance to danger/taylor or whatever spud they put down there, grimes to menzel. If we want to drop george id bring in bolton, but i wouldnt feel confident playing him in a huge final.

Do you worry that caddy for george slows our forward line down though? I think our smalls can destroy them on the bigger mcg, if we drop george we should bring bolton in imo. Drop Broad for Caddy

I know team looks balanced at moment but two players that have to be considered depending on match ups are griffiths and conca. I know they are lacking match fitness but presume they will get a run in vfl this week. Conca was easily one of our best players in the first month or two. These are higher risk selections but could pay off....

I was thinking that Coca could possibly replace Broad but my memories of an underdone Conca is that of a turnover merchant. He usually needs a few weeks to hit his straps and he simply doesn't have the time to do that. Ditto Griffiths. They are both confidence players and it would be a huge risk to rely on either to get the job done in a big final.

It's a huge dilemma but a pretty good one to have finally.

Yes it does and I've been backing the pace and pressure dynamic through the Rioli/Butler/Castagna trio all year.

Survivors from the 2015 EF loss

Cotchin
Edwards
Martin
Lambert
Rance
Grimes
Mcintosh
Riewoldt
Ellis
Grigg
Houli
Vlastuin

Still on list, but not in the 22 for various reasons

Batchelor
Miles
Hunt
Maric
Conca
Griffiths

Newbies(one will go out)

Prestia
Rioli
Townsend
Castagna
Butler
Caddy
Nakkers
Astbury
Markov
Broad
Graham

The concerns will be whether Ellis Grigg Houli KMac Sheds and Cotchin can lift to finals pressure. That of Geelong's will be hard especially in the first quarter.
Are our ten additions sufficient add ins to beat them? Very hard to assess as we've played only one of the top 8 teams twice in GWS.

Biggest priority for me is replacing Broad, don't want to hammer on a guy just starting his career as he gives it a real go, but the amount of time he spilt marks and missed targets will kill us against quality opposition

I'm not sure if you've been watching VFL games , but Conca looks like he's spent two months at Mamas eating Lasagna . He was immobile for nearly three months and couldn't train. Griffo is way off and has struggled against inferior opponents. We haven't needed them to this stage so what can they bring in their current state that is actually going to improve us? In their state they would make us two down on the day.

Surely we've learnt our lessons here? Deja vu 2015

Well spoken, young man.
Castagna has been a liability for a month now.
His tackle count has dropped and his possession count is virtually non-existent.
As to the question, does bringing in Caddy slow our forward line down ..... NO.
The way some people carry on here, bringing in one player, be it Caddy, Miles, Lennon .. makes about one-trillionth of difference to the overall pace of the team when you have blokes like Butler, Rioli, McIntosh, Edwards, Houli, Markov etc.
You could make a case to drop every single player it's about pace as there will always be som eone faster ... and someone slower.
It's about performance. Castagna's pace has not made a difference to our team in the last months as it hasn't got him to the ball first and we are going to have to win the ball to keep winning games.
It's sad as he has been largely good most of the year, but Castagna has simply not performed in recent weeks.

I wouldn't be suprised to see Hampson come in. We lacked height against Geelong, but that was at the thinner ground so I dunno. Overall Broad has been good I feel, but against the Saints did look a bit fumbly, dont want that in finals.

If Hammer comes in it will be the first time in AFL history a team has tanked during a finals series to get a better draft pick.
