I reckon the last time i was genuinely excited for a movie to come out was Kill Bill Vol2. That was circa 2003.
As for Best Picture Oscars its all been downhill since the 90s prob. (SIL and TEP being the exceptions from that decade)

Just looking through all the best picture nominations over the years you are right, although maybe because it's when I was growing up but there's so many more great movies made in the 90s compared to 2000 onward.
