I've had nights out in Geelong and thats way smaller than Canberra. Have always had a good night.

Melbourne easily has the best inner city part in Australia. But living in the suburbs I think Perth is good and way cheaper than the east coast.

The less people is fantastic. As a planned city it's way better laid out than Melbourne. A lot cleaner too, much less crime.

Takes me about 3 minutes to drive through the centre of the city in peak hour

Sydney is nice enough but it just seems not much different than home except it's 4 times the size or something.
