This question is probably very easy to answer.

I'm asking on behalf of a friend who has been debating with a mate for months abut who kicked the first goal for Adelaide in the minor round match against Hawthorn?

As a point of interest...who kicked the first goal in the opening trial match (was it against Essendon?)?

im pretty sure it was mcguiness against hawks no idea against essendon darrell hart kicked a few maybe him

ha ha ha - the Mcguinness/Fielke conundrum.
This is the same debate my mate is having with his mate.....

At the risk of looking like an idiot, I'm virtually certain Jonster and Jars are right and it was Mcguinness with the first goal against the Hawks, with Tregenza getting the first kick (IIRC).

No idea about the Essendon trial match however.

Pretty sure it was McGuiness (from a softish free). Definetly wasn't Fielke as he didn't kick a goal in the match. No idea about Essendon game sorry DW - never seen it.
If anyone can get to the State Library and see the old Sunday Mails on microfilm it might mention who got the first goal of the match in the match description.

I'm starting to get the feeling that McGuiness kicked the firt goal and Fielke kicked the first trial game goal.

After thinking about it for an unneccesary amount of time..... :p .....I think you're right..... :o ....I seem to remember the vision of Fielke receiving a handball and running inside 50 to kick a goal in the Essendon trial.......and that's probably what had me confused with the Hawks game.

Just a matter of interest - were there 50 metre lines back in '91?

It's amazing how we now talk and language can change - back in 91 that expression was non-existent yet even watching old replays you find yourself thinking about the ball going inside-50.

First goal in the trial game was Grant Fielke from about 40 out going to the southern end.
