Well, now that we have the sub-board up, let's get started. What is the first issue on the agenda?

I think that, as it is trade week, we should discuss the playing list and their futures. What does everyone think?

PS. Thanks to the admin for putting this sub-board up, and I'm honoured to have the first post :D

Actually I think it was I who had the first post ;)

I agree. The playing list is definately one of the first things we should discuss.

Recruiting policy.

I would like to redefine the 24 or under policy coupled with the 100 game policy. I think it should state or must be of sound character and onfield quality

This way we can pick up a talented 27 year old like Notting for example OR a KPP to replace Thornton. I feel the current policy while admirable is too restrictive.

Maybe we can set up an agenda?

If we get through more than one issue very well, but at least it will give the meeting some direction.......i think we should elect one person to drive the board meetings, and generate an agenda, sort of like a speaker in the house of reps, who will keep the meetings tight and focussed.

The agenda could begin to look something like:

1. Redefinition of recruiting policy

2. Playing List and list management for trade week and the draft and PSD targets, including likely de-listings. We could broadly define a trade-week strategy, although of course any discussions further down the track will be constrained by what the club actually does this week.

Thoughts?

Sounds like an excellent idea! We should elect a Chairman of the Board.

Perhaps the board member who attracted the most votes (I haven't yet looked to check who that was) should be elected the default chairperson?

Yes, I object to Gilly!

So you want me to add some structure to the meetings? Cool, HBF is not here yet .. he can get the coffee for everyone. Always nominate someone who isn't there to refuse is my motto.

This is your first poor decision virtual smorgon.....have you ever tasted one of HBF's coffees? As a barista he makes a good accountant :D

It was bound to happen ... just a matter of how quickly.

Well I'm glad you suggested HBF as the coffee maker. I was expecting you guys to give me that honour considering I am the only chick ;) I guess you already knew my answer to that :)

I'm here. I now call to order the first meeting of the order of the water buffaloes (what the? who put this Flintstone comic on my clipboard?)

I now declare open the first meeting of the BigFooty Carlton Forum Virtual Board.

There is nothing more topical than our recruiting policy with 4 days of trade period remaining.

Now while we generally leave these things up to our football department, I think it prudent to revisit and refine our recently stated policy on recruitment.

Topic of discussion - Carlton List including trades, drafts and the youth policy.

First subject - Bret Thornton and whether we should retain him even though he doesn't want to be at the Blues.

IMO, I don't want a player on the list who doesn't want to be there. I also don't want to get nothing in return for him if a trade deal fails, however, I don't want to let him go to the Hawks for nothing.

1. We should tell Hawthorn that we will only accept a trade for pick 6. To my knowledge we haven't openly said that yet and then we can hear their reply.

2. If the reply is no (which im sure it will be) then perhaps we come back to the drawing board.

Thoughts?

I am all for the youth policy because I don't want to go back down the same path we did in the early 00's (drafting Martyn, Harford etc). But I also believe if a player is getting on but still has something to give then why not look at him. If he can provide us with something we need then I'd say go for it.

Everitt is one of these players. It is clear that we need a ruckman and although Everitt will probably only play for another 2 - 3 years, that will give a young ruckman on our list enough time to develop without the pressure of being smashed week in week out. In saying that, would love Luenberger but Gibbs would be my first choice in the draft.

If we can persuade Hawthorn to trade us pick 6 for Thornton then we are a BIG chance to get both Gibbs and Luenberger.....
