I know it's an ODI, but this match is a glimpse into the post-Steve Smith future in both longer formats.

Marnus' extended form slump has exposed that we have zero depth. Our hopes are basically on Cameron Green who is still a promising work in progress but there's no guarantees he'll average more than 40 in any format.

After this performance I'm not sure we can justify two keeper bats in the same side. I'd be dropping Inglis who now averages 27 in this format, stick with Carey and pick a specialist bat.

Hardie is a odd one, his stats in domestic 50 overs cricket suck so don’t even know how his picked

It's not just that, he''s a top order bat not a number 8 or whatever he's batting. You want to bat him at 3/4 go for it but can we stop plonking guys out of position and expecting results. Frankly he's nowhere near our best 3-4 so shouldn't be in the side

Is Labuschagne now cooked at this level as well? Horribly out of form and must be out of free tickets.
No first game back...batting at 3 which i thought was very interesting ..batted 4/5 majority of his ODI career

What annoyed me and I mentioned it in my rant above ...was the same way the batters where getting out...seen it all before

Commentators mentioned how many times labs struggles against left armers.......sits back on the crease on the back foot either lbw or bowled...and its not just labs.

They all want to sit on the back foot...even Marsh last night who batted well...there where genuine half volleys from Raj and the batters where going back...you could hear the frustration from M.Waugh in the com box.

Where has the use of the feet gone ??.. get down to the pitch??...you don't have to slog it like trav tried....get down hit on the half volley down the ground ..rotate the strike

It looks like a confidence mindset with the batting group....a lack of when playing left arm spin

just gonna have to give it time I guess.

not alot on the sidelines in the way of batting.

some out and out batsmen wouldn't go astray.

lining up with 2 pure bats, 3 batting allrounders, and 2 wicketkeepers ain't ideal.

marsh and green haven't bowled this year (i know they've had injuries) - and nearly should be considered pure bats these days.

Would Renshaw be worse than whatever Lab is doing? Thats one. Surely there’s someone better than Hardie out there.
Yeah good call Luke.....Renshaw's shield form has been poor but his ODI form in the marsh cup has been okay and he has recently scored runs against sri lanka A in the A series ODI. It could be a way for Renshaw to get back into the int setup....and we don't apart from Head have many left handers in the top 6

Yep I mean I’m all ears if there’s another option but his form for qld is very solid.

Take it up with Greg Chappell and the Thought Police that walked away from the systems that consistently produced International level bats.

Australian ODI selections are odd to me, the batting line up legitimately sucks

It was surely the worst Australian ODI side that’s been fielded, at least this century!

The one positive is seeing calls for Mitch Marsh to play in the Ashes, maybe even open! I’d like to see that!!!

A hot and cold player at the top of the order that can blast away the oppo or go down in flames hilariously? Whose homework do you think the Aus selectors would be copying?

Agree with those in here that the side looked weakened. Not sure what Hardie's purpose in the team is? Batting at 7, he's providing nothing, and he bowled 2 overs. I get he's young and they're trying to pump games into him but I'd rather look at someone that specialises in at least one field.

I know his one day stats are average but I'd at least have a look at David batting at 7 in a Maxwell like role, considering Green will be back bowling soon, and Head and Marsh? can provide overs. Other options I'd like to see given an opportunity before the WC would be Owen and especially Webster. Webster has turned into a very reliable T20 batsmen and we know he has the temperament to play test cricket, he'd provide more than Hardie is at the moment.

Needs a significant improvement in his strike rate to be an international level white ball batter.

Does Webster achieve that in domestic competition, or get him in the side for some jamodis like this? Or is that seat taken by Hardie already?

Websters 50 overs stats are putrid. Hes not really that good in t20 either. I’d really be having a look at a Sutherland type in one of these hitter positions. Hardie is not a 7/8

They tried Tim David just before the 2023 World Cup in South Africa and it was a massive fail. Not saying it couldn’t work now. But if he is serious about it, a few domestic performances at state level has to be the form guide at least.

Given the amount of T20 cricket going around the world , David doesn’t strike me as someone that loves the longer formats of the game.
