Lennon, Acres, Dumont, Dunstan will all be available.

I'd want Dunstan first but think the club have other ideas.

Who do you think the club want? Lennon?

What would your order of preference be.

Personally I'd go Acres, Dunstan, Dumont then Lennon.

Me, I want Dunstan, Acres, Dumont/Lennon tied.

The club. I'm not sure. The obvious is to say Lennon as he trained with the club and sounds like he impressed.

Well I would suggest our biggst need as a club is getting someone that can kick goals , like right now, come into the team and have an impact.

It all points to Lennon unless a gun inside outside midfielder slips to 12, one that can kick and compete

Dunstan is probably the closest fit to your description but I think we're in a better position to take a slight chance on a more rarely talented kid this year, someone like Lennon or Acres.

Just a gut feel but I reckon we'll end up with Lennon
Lennon was one of the AIS kids that trained with us last year which has been said on here before so we'd know what he can bring to the Club.

First i don't think Lennon will come in and be this guy, i think he'll start at HBF as thats where Dimma wants them to learn defensive mindset. Second another midfielder allows you to push Lids and Martin forward more. Dusty had over 50 shots at goals this year for a midfielder, its sensational. Deledio is a perfect type to fun through HFF with his pace and marking, he has kicked 20+ goals in 3 years and had over 30+ shots on goal in 6 seasons.

Add in that Conca and Ellis can hit the scoreboard and both had 10+ goals and 20+ shots plus they'll go midfield/forward more. Vlastuin will get better too as he spends more time in the midfield.

Not to mention we have Knights to come back from injury who is that ready made HFF we want with our pick 12, if he stays injury free (touch wood) could easy kick 30+ goals a year and was well on track for it this season until that horrible knee injury. And we have McDonough who is everything they say Billings is except maybe without the pace but it looks like a better fitness base and a better kick.

Personally i don't think our biggest need is a stay at home HFF we need a guy who will start as a flanker, probably HBF as i said above and will eventually push into the midfield pushing Deledio and Martin forward.

Then again, a proper HFF may allow Edwards to play permanently in the midfield, where he wasn't bad this year. If Lennon plays HBF, I don't want him playing as a small defender too, I can't see him being a decent defender at AFL level. But yeah, your post does suggest that another player behind the ball would do well. Pity Kameron Kalahari will go in the top ten.

I'm a massive Edwards fan, but his best position is forward with stints in the middle. He gets too lost if he spends too much time in the midfield. We really need him to take over for Kingy as that forward line general.

I don't really want Lennon as a defender either, i really think its defensively where his lack of athleticism will be found out and that includes forward half defensive pressure. Most players will be quicker, more agile and fitter.

I don't really think we need another player behind the ball i just think whoever we choose will end up there as Dimma always says the biggest mistake he made with Dusty was not playing him back to learn a defensive mindset and understand when your mids put no pressure on how hard it can be down there. Even the fact we always play Helbig back when he comes up to AFL level suggest Dimma prefers to put them back first. Only Arnot and Dusty have been different and Arnot is very defensive player in the VFL.

Scharenberg would be our dream get as he will start back there and dominate and slowly move forward and become a Goddard/Deledio type utility. But i think he could be a better mid then both but not as good a kick.

Acres will start across HBF as a Deledio MKII, great overhead, elite athletic attributes and a beautiful long kick. I think he will evolve into a Ryan Griffen type outside with inside abilities mid.

Salem we won't get but will be a smaller version of Acres and slightly less athletic but far more physical type player and a left footer to boot.

Dunstan is just Vlastuin MKII, not quite as good a kick but i think he can improve it to a very good standard with some small adjustments.

Freeman is not anywhere as near rounded as any of the others or Lennon and needs a lot of work but play him off the HBF where he watch the play and his elite athletic ability could turn into a shuey type midfielder. He will obviously take a lot more coaching and is far rawer then the rest but if he has the right attitude could be a very good player.

Lennon for mine is a very good prospect except that his athletic abilities are not average, they are not below average they are very poor. I doubt there would be a player in the top 100 players who don't have at least 1 outstanding athletic attribute and the rest about average. Fitness is Lennon's best chance to make outstanding as you cannot improve your pace or agility dramatically but he needs to be pushing these into the average bracket for mine. I know everyone says don't look at combine results but what they can do on the ground, but when splitting players of similar ability you have to look at combine results and you would always take the more athletic player, nor is it like Lennon hasn't had the benefits of the system to work on these traits.

I can't understand how Lennon scored so badly on all the athletic tests. He looks quite a good mover when on field. Maybe he wasn't well?

For me it's simple pick the best kid available no matter what. The way I see it whoever we pick this year is going to have to be a real standout to push for games. Our depth is much deeper than it was when the likes of Martin Conca & Ellis came in. As we saw with Vlastuin this year he had to earn his way in and I expect the same thing to happen with pick 12 this year.

As it stands right now 2 weeks out from draft night our midfielder/flanker list stands at:
Cotchin Deledio Martin Jackson Ellis Conca Grigg Foley S.Edwards Vlastuin Knights Newman Petterd Arnot Batchelor Dea Helbig O'Hanlon Mcdonough.

That's 19 players and all are worthy of a spot ahead of a kid fresh onto the list at this stage. Obviously once the kid we get starts training he'll slot in there somewhere, but as I said above they are going to have to do something really special to push up ahead of guys like Knights Newman Petterd & Arnot for the last spot in the starting 22 IMO.

What pick 12 should be is someone who we look at to replace the likes of Foley & Knights from 2015 onwards as I don't believe that these 2 will be locks for the 22 by then.

we are not interested in acres

He is all yours

Love to know what you are basing this on !
Have you been told by somebody in the know or is it just your opinion and if so why ?

Underage kid who just turned 18 and would of been top 10 if not for injury
Great agility and speed , Can kick both feet with precision and is an inside/outside player that hurts them on the score board , Will probably grow to 191-192 cm and be 88-90 kgs midfielder that can play foward

Sounds like Nat Fyfe - Why wouldnt he be for the Richmond football club

Will be interesting to see what path FJ goes down, first time in a while that we will have to make a legitimate decision about who we regard higher than most as the draftees tipped to go around our pick all have various flaws. Very interesting decisions ahead.

dunno mate, call it a wild guess.

we didn't draft tom swift, Richard Hadley, or beau muston either, just seems a bit too risky

Apart from the Conca selection FJ has pretty much selected as predicted
Cotchin - foregone conclusion
Vickery - Was expected amongs 2-3 players and our need for height
Martin - Given so long as melbourne did as expected
Ellis - Was best available at his range
Vlastuin - perhaps 3-5 spots early but had been talked about for weeks

This year all the talk early was about Salem,Now there Scharenberg slipping (mainly due to KM pd) Lennon because he trained at Punt road
Acres because i have probably made 1879 posts about him :p

Very interesting draft for us considering our first pick is such a mystery. It's usually known from a while out or at least heavily speculated. I don't see why we wouldn't be interested in acres given his attributes would complement our squad so well. IMO he's a better player than Lennon
