I watched the champs and Sheed is the one I remembered as a stand out for me. The kid was all class. Broke his arm iirc.

Collarbone.
Brett Anderson of Inside Footy thinks he will be available at 12.
And that we will overlook him.
I'd be delighted if we get him. Poise is hard to teach...

With most of these guys pretty equal in ability, go for the one with the best psych profile and leadership traits. The psych profile indicates toughness (mental and physical) and leadership breeds resilience.

Them we end up with a team of super tough, super resilient leaders of good ability.

I love that kind of philosophy. I don't like reading write ups and looking at factors like X factor, height, position, etc. Stuff like 'he can run all day' mean absolutely nothing to me.

Mental toughness and leadership are the stand out traits when talent is pretty equal, as is the case at pick 12.

Who is the best in this category? Another Vlastuin? Notice how Vlastuin stood up in the final under pressure? I want more kids like that.

And balls are hard to grow. Fiona had heaps of poise :p

Haha. Joking. I don't know anything about Sheed and I'm not referring to him, just thinking about poise as an idea. It's one of many indicators that a player can read the play (since they appear to have time + space). So then I'd look at other factors relating to reading the play and find out why they appear to have this thing called poise. Some players have a fluid and beautiful or graceful style of movement (just as some guys look laconic) and at times poise can be a false alarm for ability to read the play IMO.

Have to rule out the possibility of a false alarm and find supporting evidence for the underlying trait before looking favourably at a player with poise.

Someone tough, arrogant and a bit of flair.
We have drafted stock standard for the last few years, time to take a risk.
Its unlikely that whoever is drafted this year will get the game time that other first rounders we've drafted have had in the past... so go for it, have a crack at someone where the risk could blow the competition away.

From what I hear Sheed would be that player and Salem also.

Knowing our philosophy, this is what we look for. All we are hearing is it's Salem we are keen for who we think will drop. Lennon the one we dream will fall.

Because of the reasons you state, Salem, Sheed and Crouch would all be great for us.

I honestly think Crouch will be one of the better players in this group 6 years from now. But if Sheed/Freeman come first i'd take them. Having said that Freeman will be taken by Collingwood.

Hey gang. Is there somewhere I can go (website) to view the profiles of draftees ? Cheers in advance :thumbsu:

Does anyone think there is a chance we could snag Cameron McCarthy? He looks very natural as a KPF and I'd like us to go after this type. I don't believe the group of talls we have presently will provide us with a CHF. Most of our talls appear to be Forward pocket, Relief rucks. The little I've seen of this kid impressed me. Do you think he'll be available at our pick?

The one thing I have thought through all of this is which guys tested the best in the Psych tests/interviews etc.

Reiterating what Top_4_Tiger said, as the talent around our pick is fairly even, we need to get another Vlastuin in; leader, level-headed etc.

I'd love to find any information regarding the upcoming kids and who is seen as this particular type.

Only team I think might take him before us is Collingwood. I really like McCarthy but I think we are more likely to take a good mid.

I hope we take Sheed if Salem is gone. I know he doesn't really help with our perceived lack of pace but I feel he's just a very high quality footballer. Not too different to Vlastuin last year. I've seen a few knocks on his lack of versatility but he can most certainly play forward as well as midfield. His lack of speed was dealt with at draft combine too it seems.

Francis Jackson = Brighton Grammar = Christian Salem.

This is something I was trying to keep quiet haha!

Yeah the ones I want besides Lennon after Salem is gone would be Sheed and Crouch. Both lack pace but are Vlastuin types who can just top us off significantly.

What type of player is Salem? .... havent been keeping up to date on this years crop, any replies would be awesome!

Sam Mitchell was often described as slow early in his career from memory, but became a fantastic player. Not being personally familiar with him, but could Crouch potentially be a Mitchell type, or more of a plodding inside battering ram like Brock McLean? Or neither?

He has traits of them both in my opinion. Hence why he is a top 15 pick in my opinion.

Cheers. Well, a guy that apparently averages more than 30 possies a game at TAC level would be a handy pick-up, as contested footy is the name of the game especially in AFL finals, but it seems like we target players who have some positional versatility outside of pure midfield these days.

Dermot Brereton (excuse spelling), might play if we ask nicely :D

Seriously have we ever had him down to help our forwards ? I have this vague memory that he may have in the past ??

I know Tigga has some versatility but I thought we got him as one of those pure mid types..... Open to being corrected by other more informed folk....

They certainly drafted him with the belief he would develop into a top AFL midfielder, but they also knew he could start as a back flanker and work his way into the midfield rotations as he progressed. Not sure if crouch has demonstrated that versatility, but could be wrong.

I'm not a huge Crouch fan. I think he's a bit sloppy for my liking. No doubt he'll rack up a heap of the ball but I feel a Sheed can do that too and do some damage with it. And I can't see both Sheed AND Salem both being gone.
