After reading those summaries, I like Freeman - we definitely need some explosive type players, especially if they have pace to burn.

In saying that though, the last few years, I've always wanted someone else to who we end up picking so this year, I'm just going to sit back and back FJ to nail another gem with our first rounder :D

While they vary in some skill-sets and styles to some degree, they all fit within the template of skilful, strong and battle-ready midfielders with plenty of 'inside' in their game. I think some of us are now looking for a player with outside line-breaking run and high endurance to complement the reliable inside types we have based our rebuild around.

As mentioned, the top clubs have at least one of this type, and it would be reasonable to expect us to go the same way.

Only question is: have we brought in enough of the solid reliable contested-possession 'core' types to phase out some of the earlier stop-gap players in order to now concentrate on recruiting that outside run? Or do we continue with our recent drafting strategy? I guess it comes down in part to who our recruiters think is best available at our pick who fits our needs, and they would have a much better idea than most of us here, so we need to have faith in them.

I would still think we do as we still have a blind spot of CP's when we start to lose games. When we can be even more consistant in this area then maybe we can cherry pick 'a skillset'. This however still has to fit into the mantra of best available anyway.

Ok, today's news, which comes from Quayle so has some cred attached, is that Pies seek to swap 10 and 27 for Eagles' pick 6.

Any thoughts as to why? Who's likely at 6 but not at 10?

If the Eagles did that, and I doubt they will, I'd suggest that would enhance the chances of Sheed being gone by our pick. Either Pies really want him and are worried Eagles will take him at 6, or Eagles want him and are comfy he will get to 10, as is increasingly being suggested will occur

None of the suggested pick swaps (port looking for 2 picks for 13), any Lions trades, Dees and GWS seem to involve us.

Hey, it's all discussion.

I think collingwood want Lennon or Freeman

Three things I read from that, firstly, Hine doesn't rate the depth of this draft, and probably considers pick 27 to be not worth much. Secondly, either Hine sees that there is a clear standout of six players, which stand above the rest, or he sees the draft as fairly even, but just wants to make sure he gets his man. Thirdly, it seems that Collingwood think they don't need to recruit a lot of players, and probably need Freeman, possibly because they're trying to replace Thomas. Fair?

I think he wants his man and it kind of makes sense that they want Freeman as now Melbourne have dropped back to 9 Collingwood have pushed for pick 6.

Find that odd as i think collingwood have no quality key forwards coming on after Cloke unless they push Reid forward.

Maybe with pick 6 they will take Gardiner or McCarthy? Take Gardiner so Reid can play as a forward, or give McCarthy a go as a Forward, and keep Reid as a defender. Gardiner should be there at 6, but not likely 10.

Trading pick 27 which could land them a Marsh or Harvey means they aren't looking at KPP in the scond round, and beyond the second the stocks for them are thin, so if Collingwood want a KPP they have to do it in the first round, basically.

So, take the best player available in Sheed/Freeman, or the best player for your squad going forward (KPP)? Difficult decision.

Why won't Collingwood just go away damn it?!!

They are playing it smart, having a little clean-out, loosing some experience for youth, might hit a little speed bump early next season as they make the adjustments, but will be better off for it. But I couldn't give a fig what the Carringbush do. At our first selection we should pick up a pretty highly rated youngster to add to our recent talent, slowly but sustainably setting us up pretty well for a tilt in the next couple of years.

Draft "expert" on SEN said this morning the mail out of Punt Rd was we really rated the Kardashian boy from Tassie.

...? Kade?

Still like Acres and Salem regardless. I like last year's draft, 3 players look promising, in Vlastuin, McBean and McDonough. If McDonough pays off i'd give props to Francis Jackson. Was really surprising to me when I didn't know the draftees after Vlastuin's selection, but i guess it's better since it shows that Francis and co have done their utmost of research.
The year before that Elton was seen as a steal at our second pick.

How do we know who recruiters rate highly? From the draft expert?

I want them to fall apart though and they keep doing decent trades and drafting

Haha, true, I hate them with a passion, but we were nearly wiped out in the late 80's-early 90's in part because of our hatred of the magpies during the Richmond-Collingwood player poaching war, and I've come to learn we are better off concentrating on what we can do, rather than waste our energies worrying about what others do. As Yoda says: "Fear leads to Anger, Anger leads to Hate, Hate leads to Suffering". ;)

they only have so much top talent they can trade for picks so they can't keep doing it in years to come

The reason west coast are happy to trade 6 to 10 is they are head over heels with sheed and think hell be around at pick 10 (which he will) and wanna ontrade pick 27 for yeo <--- possibly reiterating for some as for collingwood they rate freeman for their pick 10 which he'll drop to and want lennon before the lions get their hands on him. As for us dont believ anybody will put a pick greater than our towards salem, and after the top 3 go i dont believe richmond will take any other than lennon first or Kade Kolodjashnij second before salem

really don't want Salem but I was the same about Conca and Vlaustin. I'd prefer crouch over Salem. Every club needs a player who racks up the possessions consistently
