Think so too. But one can dream. I know the pies have some interest in Lennon.

I just don't see a need for a for HFF. We have McDonough, Knights and O'Hanlon for that role plus rotate Deledio and Martin through there.

McDonough probably plays a lot of midfield
Knights we are kidding ourselves if we are relying on him
O'Hanlon is still a way off and may not make it.
Deledio may play there once a year
Martin is probably about it and we'd be hoping he plays more midfield.

I'd be pretty happy with Lennon who will end up a midfielder anyway.

Scharenberg is the dream.
Also with Lennon he can provide some X Factor but his ability to push into the midfield is still questionable as showed by his testing results.
Would not mind Dunstan if no preferred options are left, really rate him and would compliment our inside stocks well, pick 12 might be a little high but we have shown the courage to back our judgement in recent drafts as seen with Conca and Vlastuin.

I could see McDonough playing midfield for some time in the ones but he would predominantly play at HFF, Knights showed great promise before his injury and will hopefully (hopeful) regain that form whilst the doubts over are others are fair. Lennon is not my first preference but he would be a difficult matchup at AFL level.

Maybe it's just me trying to expand the number of players that I'd be happy with, but I'm starting to warm to Kolodjashnij. He'd probably allow Houli to push up forward, would mean Petterd would become completely redundant (if he isn't already?), would mean Newman's role is sewn up. He would probably also allow guys like Vlastuin and Ellis to push up the ground more, he's quite tall, has decent hands and can take a mark, so he can do a job on a tallish guy. I reckon his raking kick could become a zone buster. He'll probably wont be there by our pick, but I'm starting to think he wouldn't be too bad a player. I reckon he'd be a decent forward too. His pace, height and endurance would be a hard matchup.

So this is my wishlist, one of: Boyd, Kelly, Billings, Scharenberg, Aish, Salem, Acres, KK, Sheed and Dunstan, with McDonald going to the roos. That means only one of them has to slip.

It's called draft tampering and if the AFL can prove that something suspect went on the club involved would face draft penalties and fines. Not only that but the player would be deregistered and would likely face not being able to play footy anywhere for a couple of years as well. Simply not worth the risk.

But how do they enforce this? It's impossible if the player initiates it, but much riskier for the club and I don't think clubs would risk it or at least not to a significant extent.

But a player... If he wants to go to one club, there's nothing stopping him from going up to the coach one day and saying look, I'm very very keen to play for you, I'll do my best but if there's a 50/50 I'll back out and protect my body for next year...

It can be subtle, these guys know they're being drafted, it's a matter of who they go to, which has a major impact on their career and earning potential.

I'd definitely give Damien Hardwick a wink if I was a top 5 pick. I would then say check out my new Instagram photo, and post it up in front of him with a wink so he knows it's not real. Then I'll slip to Richmond and play for my dream club and win flags with Cotch and receive business opportunities while living in a great location. Plus I'd have a larger profile, and I could be part of a professional, successful environment instead of getting drafted by St Kilda at 3! ;)

I have no reason to believe a current player is doing this, but I would if I were them. Then again, maybe this attitude is more suited to Essendon haha...

Remember how we were talking in the rookie draft thread about X factor types, well the more I read about Nathan Freeman, the more he sounds like that type of player. With exceptional speed and a good endurance base he seems like the perfect kid to pick up and sit on a flank for a year or 2 while he continues to develop his game to become a truly elite level midfielder. With White moving on we're really lacking that line breaking type of midfielder who can get on his bike and open up a tight game.

Looking at our potential midfield group going forward we'd have:
Cotchin Deledio Martin Jackson Ellis Conca Vlastuin Grigg S.Edwards Arnot Mcdonough & Freeman. To me that is a high quality midfield group for the future. Ball winning ability, run & carry, defensively sound and a genuine scoreboard threat.

I normally try not to get too excited about a draftee as i get really disappointed when we don't select him. I got excited about Selwood, Boak, Trengove and Hamish Hartlett in the past. But i don't think i've ever got as excited as i have about any player like Acres. I just hope if we don't pick him he is gone before our selection.

I am curious KP where do you get your draft combine results?? You seem to know how everyone did.
Yep looks to be a player, Id select Lennon ahead of him being a Vic , puts the go home factor out of it, even though not a lot of west Aussie tend to go back....good player though

Remember how we were talking in the rookie draft thread about X factor types, well the more I read about Nathan Freeman, the more he sounds like that type of player. With White moving on we're really lacking that line breaking type of midfielder who can get on his bike and open up a tight game.

Very unlikely he gets through Melbourne though, his kicking can also be suspect sometimes.

all signs point to Lennon, which i am reasonably happy with. I think we should begin to accept that he will likely be in the yellow and black next year:thumbsu:

The difference is Freemans disposal is nothing special.

I would love that x player type at our club. If either Freeman or Lennon slide I would be over the moon. If both were gone I would even be happy with Hartung at 12. I think with Ellis, Conca and Vlastuin we are ready to take that risk. We have our core solid 200 gamers now it's time for the freak match winners.

We are not relying on Knights but its his position first lets be honest.
I agree on O'Hanlon, but he has had injuries this and played 8 games in his first year is a decent indication he is highly rated internally.
Deledio and Martin will play forward more and more as Vlastuin, Conca, Ellis and others like Helbig, Mcdonough, Arnot plus pick 12 move into the midfield.

Look i've gone and watched Lennon again and i'm not as worried as i was. But he'd still be my last choice at pick 12 but i suspect he'll be our pick. I don't even think he will be HFF, he will start at HBF and move into the midfield. But with Lennon you're more hoping he will make the step up in the midfield from HBF two positions he has barely played. Scharenberg you know can play forward and back and have a better indication he could move into the midfield. Salem and Acres i feel are similar.

How so confident?

Doesn't have to be special though. A kid who can run all day and when needed do so with blinding speed is X factor enough especially when you add in that he isn't a kid who relies on having the ball fed out to him to just that. Not sure about others bur for me having a kid who plays like a combination of Judd and Dangerfield is enough for me when it comes to having X factor and game changing ability. A Lennon or Salem aren't going to be those types of midfielders as far as I'm concerned, still will be very good players but they won't be a POD midfielder like Freeman would be.

Salem has x-factor, Freeman is only compared to Judd and Dangerfield because of his acceleration; the problem is Freeman is relatively short and Judd and Dangerfield are in the high 180s.

Luke Shuey is a far better comparison. But he needs a lot of work. I wouldn't be disappointed if we got him.

Curious Paige Cardona who is a TAC cup follower (though i think Danog doesn't rate her efforts) thinks Lennon is a strong chance to go to Brisbane.

Don't get the Freeman love. Doesn't get a lot of the ball and is considered a player who wins a lot of inside ball, however most of his touches have come off the half back flank when I have seen him which admittedly isn't a lot. In any case my preferences are:

1. Dunstan
2. Lennon

And if Scharenburg was available I would take though I still prefer Dunstan as a player. Just think Scharenburg with his versatility serves more value.

It's a mix of the Collingwood interest and the athleticism. But he is a strong inside player. He is very much a player i think you can mould as you get him to learn how to find easy ball on the spread and use his pace to break away from the pack use that extra time to kick to the advantage of his team.
