Being able to run means jack. Polec had a 15+ beep test too before he was drafted. Hartung is tiny and way outside. These players just do not impact at AFL level.

We have Ellis as a gut runner and I would be massively upset if we picked Hartung as he is the kind of player who looks great at lower levels but struggles at AFL level. He is too small, cannot win his own ball and is not fast enough. Gaff already struggles at AFL level and he is bigger and has more inside ability then Hartung will even have.

Gaff is one of the Eagles that is tagged every week. Not bad for someone who struggles!

He isn't tagged, teams have just worked him out. All you need a guy who runs both ways. We chucked Ellis on him and he was null. Simple fact is as an outside player who is small and with no pace he is easy to push out of the game.

Hartung is smaller and not much quicker. Add to that he has poor attitude with dealing with some one running with him, and at AFL level he'll be found out in a heart beat.

He's not really skinny though and he's tough as nails and attacks the footy like crazy. JON was soft and mentally weak.

Your right !! I was totally thinking of someone else who has dark hair. I just went looking for his video and he does seem like the kind of player we would take.....not that there's a big thing about it but I think he shares a birthday with sugar......I know it's a real stretch but another sugar in this midfield wouldn't be a bad thing I think he'd thrive in a professional environment...

The challenge this year is the unknown of whom others are going to pick. Therefore we could have anyone from a Scharenberg to a Salem to a Lennon to a Sheed to a Bontempelli to a Feeman (or others expected to go top 10) all available at our pick. That creates the greater air of unknown.

For the record I see no chance of any of Boyd, Kelly, Billings, Aish, Kolodjashnij or McDonald being there at 12. Therefore in my uninformed view, the others most often mentioned as top 10 candidates, Scharenberg, Salem, Lennon, Sheed, Bontempelli and Feeman are a chance of being there at 12 and if one of Scharenberg, Sheed, Salem or Lennon were available I am not sure we can go too far wrong with our first selection. I would be pro Acres or Dunstan outside of those 4.

Last couple of drafts I've been trying to think not just about a draft selection but more so when a person of a certain type and skill-set comes into the team what are the possible implications for other players ? Could someone like a Zak Jones take the small forward ? So someone like Steve Morris could run more through the midfield ? Just thinking out loud....

haha! i wouldn't be disappointed with Jones, in fact, if we draft him, i'll be telling a few of my footy mates he's my brother as they may not be switched on that he is the brother of Nathan from Melbourne (i have same name)

After reading his profile on AFL.com wouldn't be against drafting Jones. Jones has been compared with Steven Morris. Another Morris on the list, yes please. The up side is I feel he will be much better in the middle than Morris. Morris can tag the best small and Jones can tag the best midfielder but could also hurt who he plays on the other way.

As much as I would love a hard running outside player or Lennon the teams that make the GF are generally the teams with the best defence. We lack that hard midfielder that can step up when needed. The games we lost last season were mainly through 10 mins of dominance. Jones.could become that player to step up smash Judd and we win our first final.

Will be a very good player and a safer pick than Lennon. Though Lennon would give us a point of difference. Salem will be a star.

Jones is a midfielder who could start in defence like Vlastuin. He'd be our midfield version of Morris and will likely do some tagging roles early in his career (if we get him. )
