The coach said key forward Brad Fisher was a likely inclusion, while Irishman Setanta O’hAilpin was set for an extended stint of senior football after impressing the coaching panel with his form and attitude.

“His form’s been really good and we’ve taken him away twice and to his credit … he’s come back from a travel and then been in our best two or three players for the Bullants,” Ratten said.

“So we just think his flexibility [is important] … so I think he really gets his chance now to play in the team.

“He’ll play for probably two or three weeks, we’ll put him in there and let him have a real crack at it to see how he goes.”

Right attitude from the coaches but I am afraid we'll be complaining on here about these two in a few weeks time. I'm more for giving blokes who haven't been given a million oppertunities a go, like Hartlett and Ellard. Blokes who have been good against good VFL teams and consistantly good. Not blokes who play ok in the VFL, then play 1 fairly good gama against a lowly VFL side.

Things are looking stale on the Carlton MC, they look to be stuck in their views of who can and can't play. In their defence we need to start playing blokes and seeing who can and who can't play.

Again this is a selection for the right reasons. We haven't been taking marks up forward of late and Fisher is a mark taker, pure and simple. If Wiggins goes out, Fisher can take the marks and miss the goals just as easily.

Setanta is far more mobile than Hartlett so is more of a Waite replacement. Hartlett needs Setanta to fail, or Bower, Austin or Jamison to go down in order to be guaranteed a game.

Think this is a positive step from Ratts. I would actually give Carlos at least a month guarantee and tell him to take risks and not to worry about mistakes. In my opinion he is very talented but aside from perhaps his second season he has looked very tentative and hesitant.

Problem is we just drop and recall the same players. We lose: drop Wiggins, Cloke, Houlihan, O'halpin, Robisnson etc etc.. And the same few will go through that process this week. Ratts needs to be a bit more innovative. Instaed of dropping the players who are on the fringe, what about players that are 'senior' that aren't performing?
Russell?
Stevens(this year,had a good one last week)
Simpson
Fevola

This season is going from bad to worse with these terrible inclusions.

To think just over 2 months ago BF Carlton fans were rejoicing with the prospect of these two never getting another game.

I can't see us winning more games by dropping Fev. I agree in theory that a strong message needs to be sent to the players that no one is above the team, but with the injury to Waite we would struggle to find another forward capable of kicking a match winning number of goals............
The only real possibility that I can see now is to wait fo one of the other ruckmen to return from injury and move Special K to FF...........

I think your onto something here..............
I have a soft spot for both these players, but I don't think they make our team much better........

honestly i'm sick of the MC giving the same old players "another go" time and time again. Especially when they aren't being impressive and aren't the best players in the VFL consistantly.

We should like up like this:

B: Browne, Jamison, Thornton
HB: Simpson, Bower, Austin
C: Stevens, Judd, Scotland
HF: Robinson, Fevola, Gibbs
F: Yarran, Kreuzer, Betts
Foll: Hampson, Ellard, Murphy
Int: Armfield/Russell, Joseph, Hartlett, Grigg
EM: Fisher, O'hAilpin, Russell/Armfield

Out: Wiggins, Waite, Hadley, Russell/Armfield
In: Ellard, Hartlett, Scotland, Grigg

Playing Austin, Bower, Jamison gives us players that can play tall and small so Hartlett fits in there fine. I'm Not sure if Armfield or Russell should make way.

Consistent form in the VFL?

Why have you got Grigg in then? Surely Grigg would require some more "form" to get into the side, not just one good game. Armfield has been great and has had a bad week.

Why is Fev not on your list of outs? Surely if you are sick of the MC looking after the "old boys" even when they are out of form....surely Fev would get a run in the two's?

O'hAilpin has been consitently good in the reserves. He deserves his shot. Why have him as an emergency?

Sorry, but your arguement and selections don't seem to add up to me.

Grigg is a proven player and he proved to be fit, good enough for me.

I would be more inclined to see Armfield in the side.

Fev is not on our list of outs because last week we only played in the midfield and the backline. Our midfielders didn't give our forwards a chance, Fev was good against Collingwood, if we can get the ball forward then Fev will be useful. All those bagging Fev about last week are just displaying that they never saw the game or know bugger all about the game. I don't mind the "old boys" unless they are average players at best. Fevola is a good player, he is overweight though. He has not been as bad as every one is saying.

O'hAilpin we have seen time and time again, he's only ok. Why have a near 200cm player than can't take a mark and is ordinary in the ruck. His VFL form has only been ok. His form has not been as good or as consistent as Hartlett and with Hartlett in without dropping Hampson there are limited places for O'hAilpin. Replacing Waite with Setanta, problem is Waite was a good mark and Setanta's marking is questionable. So what does O'hAilpin have to offer? Size? He doesn't use his size very well, he doesn't throw his body around, he doesn't take many marks, his defencive skills are ok but we don't need another tall defender and Hartlett has more form in that area.
His value is his speed, something he doesn't use enough. But his disposal is only average, Grigg and Ellard also offer speed to the side and they come with better kicking.

The verdict is Setanta should only come in for Hampson, this might not be such a bad move as Setanta has value around the ground as a ruckman and could do quite a good defencive job on Cox. we are sacrificing ruck hit outs though and the possibality of playing Kreuzer forward with this move. Although Kreuzer could drift forward after center bounces and let Setanta ruck around the ground.

You say things are stale on MC, yet say that in their defence we need to starting playing blokes and see who can / can't play? Kind of doesn't make sense to me. And yet we have had 6 players debut this year to see whether or not "they can play". Doesn't sound stale to me, just sounds like experimentation which I think is a brave thing for the MC to do. Is that stale?

I wonder what games some people are watching sometimes, seriously:confused:. We have had 6 players debut this year and we also know how some of the others play as well that are currently at Ants level. It's not the same process otherwise Fisher would have been in weeks ago and not have had to play for so many weeks at Bullants level.

Good luck to both of them Take your chances boys.:thumbsu:

After the game v Crows and Waite going down the Ants knew the spotlight would be on them. Players had a perfect chance to shine and put their hand up.
Hoops did not - maybe says where he is at
Fish Grigg and Ellard amongst others dug deep and delivered.
They earnt a call up and if Carlos was seen to as well then fine by me.
