Away in Fiji for a week with the family so didn't watch the game.

Told my 7 year old son the scores this morning and his response was "oh that's not too bad"

Is that what we've become again so quickly.

A 40 point loss is considered not too bad.

Depressing state of affairs for Carlton and our passionate supporters
Was feeling pretty negative about the game and tipped a 77 point drubbing. At 3QT I was feeling like it was going to be

around the mark. We fought it out in the last, have to say our effort was their, unlike the past couple of weeks. Crippa

played well, good to see big Pitto stand up and contribute. Was Cowans best game so far, coming along nicely. Moir is

getting there, will have a break-out game in the next month. Zaccy Williams was good, quality user.

We need to move past players the likes of Fanta, Fog, Doc and Acres who was rightly dropped.

Flynn Young is struggling to adapt to the speed of AFL, maybe he needs to go back to the magoos and regain some

confidence. All up I was happy that we were better against quality opposition, albeit well beaten. Still I will take that and

look at the positives. Players are still with Voss, you could see that. G.W. will work through it at the end of the season.

I dont want him getting possession - he makes horrible decisions - 90% of the time. He needs a lot of work on the basics and also a lot of work to develop some decent decision making and basic skills and awareness....durdin the same- Fogarty has a footy brain and can lay a tackle- but by jingo - he cant kick to save his life - and bad kciking is bad football.

So many parts of the team are so weak and brittle that no one can actually see a 'game plan' except for trying to win a contested football and play zone defense which good teams pick apart because basically too many players havent got the leg speed to cover and actually play zone defense.

Teh iuncontesrted mark acoount against Carlton week in week out - shouts loudly ot this...

and yes Voss's defense first mantra wears thin if you cant do anythign with teh ball once you get because everythign breaks down by the second or third attempted possession and execution...

this stuff is pretty much uncoachable rubbish we are seeing - btw- Motlop was just ine of many examples I posted it is a theme.
He makes horrible decisions 90% of the time and yet was involved in 25% of our scores?

Motlop is a funny one. Liked his intent vs the Lions. I just don't understand the MC. His traits don't match a midfielder. they are so confused on roles. We need this MC group gone because they don't understand the link between player traits and team roles.

He is only a small forward. Maybe an average one but one we can use and he can grow. Motlop's key traits are to be elusive, creative, find space and get himself a goal. This in no way matches the hardnosed running, tackling, defensive transition of a successful midfielder.

What is confusing the MC is that he is trying as hard as he can to be someone who he is not. In a short term spell he can bring the required traits like anyone. But long term players revert to type. And his type is to not chase/tackle hard if he can get away with it. This contrasts with a REAL midfielder who loves to tackle/chase/get possies.

I'm not personally potshotting Motlop. I think with Williams he has a role to play. I have no time for Fogarty/Durdin and now Fantasia who is always breaking so we cant persist with him. Fantasia was good but cant last. Williams almost in the same basket.

The sides kicking is just a by product of no system, wrong roles, panic and now poor kicking as a result. This will right itself under a new coaching group. Why? Because every player has a higher kicking efficinecy in past seasons. So this current shambles is on Voss and his team. JAB does not have a clue with his posts.

It's Voss and the MC who have spun themselves in circles so fast, and then comes out of that spin and try and run forward. No idea. It just needed one of that team to have 'insight'. But unluckily for Voss, not one of them has it.

Circumstantial evidence they are confused. Inside midfielders everywhere. A small forward in Motlop playing midfield. Two inside midfiedlers (Fogarty/Durdin) playing as small forwards. A winger in hollands playing half back who cant stand up physically in defence. Another inside midfielder in Lord playing winger. Mcgovern, a player who is FAST, but not a defender - his decision making is not safe. His physicality is conditional to when he wants to show it.

Probably not given the turnover merchants in this game like Cerra, Fogarty, Docherty would still be in the team and the midfield form of say Cripps not necessarily improved by these inclusions.
Didn’t we win like 14 in a row with Fog in the team?

Would we have won this game with Silvagni, McKay, Walsh, Hollands, Saad, Cotterell, Kemp, Newman, jagga.
I'll play and say probably.

Newman Weitering Saad
Silvagni Haynes O'Farrell
OHollands Cripps Cottrell
Kemp Curnow EHollands
Williams McKay Motlop
DeKoning Walsh Hewett

Int Cowan Cincotta Smith Moir (sub Lord)

Remove from Last night
Young Carroll Fogarty McGovern Cerra Docherty Durdin Fantasia Pittonet

That side looks a darn sight better than last nights, alot of the ball butchers (bold) have been removed has well as the poor decision makers (the rest).

Blooding HOF looks better with that defence around the kid.

Agree. Should just stay in the 1s, can play mostly as a third tall intercepting when Weiters/JSOS both fit while his body develops

No need for McGovern
Yep Gov is a redundant back man now

Forward for the rest of the year and then it’s head to head V Kemp (once he’s fully fit) for the 3rd tall spot

I just loving watching Carlton.

We get a couple of goals and then the next centre bounce, brisbane clear it out of the front of the circle and all run forward and we have no one there.

Next bounce - exactly the same thing happens.

Honestly our centre bounce work is mindboggingly amateurish.
Some of the worst I've ever seen at our club.

Been a problem for a while, even in the past with also pretty decent midfields, we too often get the setup wrong and get out done by less talented but better setup midfields.

But at least back then we'd have periods of dominating. Now we're just too consistently awful there.

Hope you don't mind me coming on here but I have to say I remember when rumours of you guys drafting George Hewett were circling and many on this board argued he would not be in your best 22.

I just hope those people are now regretting that particular statement.

For some strange reason - I’m really flat today compared to previous weeks. Human nature is intriguing sometimes, as fully expected a loss and yet as flat as I’ve possible been.
I think it's in the shift in commentary and court of public opinion.

It's shifted from derision through morbid curiosity and quite quickly into pity.

No one wants to be pitied.

George is a much loved solid citizen, but with anything like AFL standard drafting and trading he may not be best 22.

He's a beneficiary of circumstance.

Voss wasn’t happy about it, but why isn’t drilled and drilled and drilled again in training until its second nature?

Beats me, lately you'd swear we don't train on.... well, anything. Kicking, handballing, set shots. Bizarre stuff.

Appreciate the sentiment, but this was one of his poorer weeks lol, though the stats may not reflect it. Still did his job and never stops trying, but got caught badly a few times.

But on body of work, especially across the season, yeah he's been very good for us.

Its no surprise two of best recruits in as long as I can remember are ex Swans player (George and Newmy). You can hand over Gulden and Florent if you want🤣

Did they? I can't remember. I was positive about it, much like I was when we got Newman. Swans have a good system and imparting that on our squad can only be a positive.

Longmire will be a good get for us too
Pagan was a good coach because at the time North were a good club and he was a good coach.

Malthouse was a good coach and he was successful because Collingwood were a good club.

Longmire is a good coach and Sydney are a good a good club.

What makes a good club? The head of football, list manager, recruiting team, coaching team, high perfomance team, what have I missed?

If we get Longmire we will get a good coach, however are we a good club?

Carroll made some mistakes tonight but he also did some pretty good things.

Development is not linear but I do think we have some decent young players for the next generation.

10+ new players this year is a record I think?
I would be blowing up at his mates for those htb incidents. Under no circumstances should he not be aware of his situation but it's even worse that there's clearly no communication between team mates out there at all
