Fitzroy Football Club
This coming Tuesday on September 26th, Fitzroy Football Club will celebrate 140 years in existance.

Fitzroy Football Club was formed on September 26th 1883 at the Brunswick Hotel in Brunswick Street Fitzroy at a meeting attended by 68 people and chaired by John McMahon who became become the Fitzroy's first president. The VFA allowed Fitzroy to join as the seventh club in 1884, playing in the maroon and blue colours of the local Normanby Junior Football Club.

Hopefully Fitzroy can add to its premiership tally this weekend and really celebrate 140 years in style.

It's been an up and down journey over the past 140 years, but Fitzroy is unique in that we're the only Australian Rules football club to have competed in the VFA, VFL, AFL and the VAFA competitions. To finally reach the Premier level in the VAFA from D-grade level back in 2009 is a credit to all the hard work of all the people at Fitzroy after the dark days of the mid to late 1990s.

Go Roys!

A happy 140th birthday to Fitzroy Football Club!

Here below is a link to some notes about the predecessor Normanby FC, which as Roylion states, essentially morphed into Fitzroy FC in 1883.

We're not quite unique...have a gander at Hawthorn's history.

That said, I'm beyond excited to get stuck in again and will be a big buzz when preseason starts in a month and a bit I imagine!
