Half time and they look flat. We're really missing Gardy. Green murdered in first quarter but Hunter doing a lot beytter on O'Loughlin. Glass not bad on Hall. Embley pick of the bunch so far.
Troy Wilson....the Bowling Ball becomes a fairy. I can't believe it.

Same umpiring instructions..."let it go"...what a joke. What's the point of having umpires if they put their whistles in their pockets.

ps crap camera work and Brereton turns the commentary into a 'take-the-****athon"

Good work by Sydney. Goodes was ... excellent, and gee whiz it's odd to see big Jase running around in a red top.

Top work to get back into it Eagles. Leaving aside the usual suspects for a minute - Humm's getting better with every game, Cox got better as the game progressed and Doogs did some good things, although his disposal is crap.

Oh well, onward and upward.

PS: Have we just seen Willo's last game in an Eagles jumper?

absolutely - I think he knows it as well.

Few positives to come out of this game - I thought glass was good and also doogs.

I have concerns with cuz and his abiltiy to have affective disposals - they are appalling.

I thought the commentary did Glass a great dis-service ... always with the "Hall isn't playing well ..." . He was only playing as well as his opponent let him, and Glass played him very tight, and spoiled very well. And Hall was certainly very lucky not to give a way a free kick when he kicked his goal ... I'm not going to lie to you, he is one of my favs, hence i might be slightly biased, but he WILL be our FB for years to come.

Our main problem today, and what i think is the biggest indication of when we are playing bad, our disposal around the ground ... I gave Adkins a vote because I thought he presented well and did some good things, but he amongst others just didn't do enough with it.

Whether it was the SCG size, but we just could not pin-point a forward today, makes it very hard for Willow, but around the ground as well, passages of play where we were fluent were few and far between.... anyone else notice this?

Also, when we turned it over, how many times did the swans seem to have half a dozen players meandering loose on the "switched to" wing...

rant over

The Willow of old would have loved a smaller ground so he could take out more oponents in the restricted space.

The only one he took out today was Cuz.

The thinkg about our style of play is we don't go looking for tall marking forwards. We hold the ball in and play thru the half forward line. Today's first half we went back to the traditional FF style play of pumping it in to the 50 expecting pack marks to be taken. Well we dont have the players for that type of footy. The days of Suma and Scotty are gone and we don't have a prospective traditional FF on the books (maybe Johnson). Not that I mind because the days of traditional setups are over I think.
I can't see Hansen playing the traditional FF role, maybe a CHF like Johnathon Brown.

i don't know what the cause of the problem but they certainly looked flat. no pressure, no run.

i just had a look at the stats on the afl site and, while they haven't got the total possessions tallied for the teams, it looks like we had far less of the footy. i suppose its encouraging that, after such a shocking first half, and with so much less possession, we still got close on a ground where we've always struggled.

also .... obviously O'Loughlin was B.O.G .....

now Woosha keeps preaching this "match-ups determine ins and outs". I would have thought that Collica was the ideal match-up for him, and that is not just on today's performance, seriously, I've been thinking it for weeks.....

Where is Michael Collica?

- Played last week in appalling conditions
- Only a six day break (Swans had seven)
- Played away from home on a small ground
- No Gardiner

8 points flattered us really. I thought we were completely outplayed nearly all afternoon. How we got that close I'll never know.

Excuse me popping in- just a visitor from the "other side".

To be honest, neither side played very well this afternoon, one of the reasons you got so close. Sydney got a fair amount of the ball but used it very ordinarily, especially in the second half. And for a team who has been so accurate for most of the season, our goal kicking was shocking. I know the stats show both team's had a pretty similar conversion rate but I don't think WC missed as many sitters as we did. Thank goodness for Micky O!

Hopefully if we get to play each other again at the business end of the season we'll all get to watch a better spectacle.

Exactly - flat as a pancake. I said those words after one and a half minutes of the game.

These things happen. The important thing is that through perseverance and heart, we got to within 8 points on a top side's home ground with everything against us. This team's got the ticker.

- Swans also played in poor conditions last week and against some pretty tough competition!
- Not a huge difference in the break - Swans played Sat night in Adelaide, while WCE played Sun afternoon at home
- Yep, small ground suits your style less, although it can help with fatigue
- Both teams had a few players out, but this undoubtedly hurt you guys a lot

I think the awesome skills of three freak players really made a huge difference - look at the goals Judd, Kerr and Sampi kicked!!

i thought that the swans let us off the hook in the first quater. they missed quite a few gettable goals early on. they were certainly switched on a lot earlier than us.

well done sydney.

mr wilson has played his last game for west coast.

i will be very angry if i ever see him taking up a spot in our 22 when there are about half a dozen young guys that i would like to see getting a game, even if that game consist of sitting on the bench.

I told my mate 5 minutes into the game that we were in trouble. I thought we played our worst footy for the season in the first half and while we lifted a little in the second half and fought back into the game, I dont think we ever really looked like winning.

Kerr was great, the rest sucked. Hopefully we will have Gardiner and Matera back for next weekend.

I agree, Wilson is finished, I thank him for his time. His little fill in job for a few years went well but now we have better, younger players ready to make an impact. Thanks Willow but your time has passed.
