Just because you have an aversion to a particular person eg. Alan Jones, doesn't mean that everything they have ever said or are going to say in the future is objectionable rubbish. Too much black & white in discourse today and not enough nuance.

I detest Israel Folau and his toxic, ignorant, if not hate filled rants against the LGBT community, but I can't help but feel he has been made a Martyr from this settlement with Rugby Australia and I can't help but feel a dangerous precedent has been set.

Hope the rumours of an NRL club thinking of recruiting or trying our Israel is false, I am hardly a fan of any form of rugby, but that would totally been insult to poor victims of homophobic hate like Tyrone Unsworth, the 12 year old boy from Queensland who killed himself after constant bullying over his sexuality.

I am much more comfortable hanging out with gay people,/friends whom in my experience have been very respectful and tolerant of my culture and faith, than someone as twisted and toxic by indoctrine like Folau..

Would be encouraging if a male AFL player came out publicly as a sign of defiance and solidarity against Folau and the bigotry and intolerance he preaches.

Religion seems deeply entrenched in your thinking, are you suggesting its ok to believe it just not allowed to preach it? Fair dinkum, we do know what Christians believe ... LGBTI & Christians playing sport together, is that sinful?

Mate he was preaching to the converted, the public at large understand that. Helped/hindered, its not on the agenda as was apparent on the recent same sex marriage decision. Middle Australia did not vote on religious lines.

If it was good enough for Jesus to hangout with prostitutes, criminals and the sinful then a christian showing tolerance when playing sport with someone of a differing sexual orientation should be a given.

No, I don't think anyone has changed their minds with regard to "gay politics" as a result of this fiasco. However, it has been reinforced via libertarian support. The best way to deal with religious idiocy, is to come at it subtly and indirectly, because it almost always gets a strong reaction if it is met head on.

It's about tactics.

I'm sure that the mature, intelligent gay elements in society (IME, the majority), would not have approached this with the lack of sophistication applied by the generic outrage lobby.
