Effective immediately, sad to see him go. Very good player who never got to realise his full potential due to injury, wish him all the best.

Will never forget watching him play for the Big V all those years ago, was electrifying. Was seriously good and sad we rarely got to see him at that level. I'll always have a soft spot for Axel.

Axel was one of my favourites, really carried us in that 2007-2010 period where the list had limited talent, and despite probably not having anywhere near the talent of our current crop of star players (Cotchin, Martin, etc), he certainly got the absolute best out of himself and made a real contribution to the footy club.

Glad he made it to 150 games so he gets his life membership too!

Some use the word Champion and base that on win/loss and time spent on the ground.

foley was a champion to me. He was awesome to watch when fully fit but as equally powerful was the example he set at training/rehab/ and off field.

You are a champion Axel!

I remember when Dimma first arrived he asked Axel to take the number 9, and he said no his number is 41.
Dimma has still been trying to get him into a lower number.

Sorry but we'd have more to celebrate about Axels career if it wasn't for what happened on the Gold Coast when he was forced to play hurt.
