For anybody who was at the Hawks v Cats practice match. Went to the game with a one eyed Essendon supporter and we came away saying that Hodge has the best skills by foot in the AFL. Some of the kick outs and pin point passing to the forwards was a delight to see. Anyone share this observation yesterday.

Jarman-esque.

With those foot skills and his unrivalled physicality for a 20 year old, it's time he took the next step. He's been teasing for too long and we all know what type of player he can be. May never be the midfielder people thought (largely because of Judd), but that hasn't stopped plenty of superstars in the past - Hird, Ayres etc. Will be entertaining to dig up a few Bigfooty threads in time.

That was the comparison Schwab used when describing Hodge's footskills - only Jarman didn't have that 60m bullet pass in his arsenal. (Mind you, a fair few are critical of Hodgey's daisy-cutters - he does shank a few.)

I'd still prefer to see him play on the ball more often, especially if Vanders and Ries continue to stagnate as they've done thus far in the pre-season.

Either way, it's good to see a coach finally have some faith in Hodge as our primary playmaker.

Agree totally. It has been a constant annoyance to me that we haven't played Hodge where he could do most damage.

It has also annoyed me to read all these unfair comparisons with Judd who has been allowed to play his natural game where Hodge has had to play a more restrictive role.

Time to unleash the beast and show the footy world exactly how good Luke Hodge really is.

Aker would definatley give him a shake as he probably has the most damaging non-preferred kick in the competition and his right foot is also sublime...

however Hodge in the past few weeks has definatley cemented him name in that group of players with sublime foot skills (also damaging)

agree ! time 4 luke 2 stand up and show everybody why he was taken no1 in the best ever draft, us hawks know that he can play...........just a matter of staying on the park and remaining injury free

and u can quote me on this

mike will have him in his top50 by the end of the year, around 25........by 2006 he will be pushing the top 20 and beyond!!!!........ 4 what mikes top 50 is worth anyways :D

Personally, I really don't care what Mike Sheehan thinks. I know Hodge is a top player, all the Hawk fans probably think the same way, and that's all that matters. Sheehan's opinions are worthless.

pretty sure i just said that , my point being hodge will enter the elite sooner rather than l8r

Best in the league is pushing it, but the kid definitely has a superb foot on him.

Personally think the comparisons with Judd are unnecessary, as the kid will be a star in his own right. A joy to watch.
