Footy bladders

How are replacement footy bladders sold in Australia ? Does anybody have a contact from whom I can buy several of them (at least half a dozen).

For some reason, the valves keep breaking on my footies. Perhaps air needles are larger here than in Australia--I don't know. I used to think that oil getting onto the needle and causing the latex to deteriorate was the cause, but this time I kept the needle clean and it still happened.

When my footy's bladder sprung a slow leak, I took it to the local sports store (Rebel Sport @ Highpoint), and they re-bladdered it for $5. There wasn't much call for it, so I don't think they do it anymore.

To actually get some replacement bladders, your best bet may be to contact the manufacturer directly.

Ive got hundreds of bladders sitting in the cupbord in the garage!

The problem I get with footy's isnt the bladders bursting but the outer material cutting open at the seams. It happens all the time!

I've owned at least 50 footies and every single one of them have cut open. Maybe I kick too much on the roads and the concrete instead of sticking to the grass. Ive even had a couple of leather Ross Faulkners which eventually tore open after a few months of kicking on the road...

The ones that cut open the easiest are the small size synthetic ones. I have owned at least 20 of those little red and blue ones and they've all broken open within a few months. Theyr'e hopeless!!!

The one Ive got at the moment is just about gone...it's a full size Kookaburra and it's starting to wear away around the seams.

My Sherrin's in good condition tho. In fact, I havent even opened it yet! Still waiting for it to be delivered from Mr Ripper

That is odd, BPP. I've had the same Sherrin match grade footy for almost a decade. It too has had the bladder replaced twice (I should have bought more of them at the time ) but it has lasted through all sorts of weather (we used to play in winters, too). I used to train alone by kicking it hard against trees--amazingly the leather casing is barely worn but it's finally becoming stiff from mildew of all things (probably something you don't have to worry about as much in your climate).

Is your footy getting wet ? Perhaps you're drying it out too fast. Otherwise, abrasion from the pavement will wear the casing away and cause it to tear, eventually, but it shouldn't cause the stitching itself to break (I assume your footies have the same medium weight nylon thread as mine and they're not *extremely* under- or overinflated).
Of course, this is all conjecture on my part. I studied materials preservation at uni but I never studied footballs...

Ive seriously got a whole stack of footies wear the edges of the footy have worn away pretty badly and then caused the stitches to come apart.
I kick the footy quite a bit and when I do it usually goes through a fair beating but it shouldnt be tearing away so quickly. Most of them are very lucky to reach their first birthday. Very lucky. But I do take it to school most days and it's kicked a lot on the concrete and into the portables a fair bit ....And it does get wet a bit but I don't think that would have a lot to do with it.

hehehe yeah footys arent meant for concrete. I too have learnt

I use a crappy old ball when i play on the road, half the time it gets lost at the neighbours house anyway lol



I keep my Sherrin stictly on grass except today i was bouncing it on the cricket pitch

This thread comes up in the top 10 on Google for "replace Sherrin bladder" so I thought I'd revive it!

I've got 15 y/old match grade ball in which the bladder is stuffed. The valve is completely shot.

Are there any resources online about replacing the bladder yourself? I've never had to do it before.

Could deffinately use a couple of replacement bladders for the footy.

Don't know about replacing the footy bladder, but you can buy replacement bladders for floor to ceiling balls at sports shops pretty easily

If you go into a big sports store I'm sure you would be able to get one easily enough, or if not they would order one in.

Used to manage a Rebel Sport about 6 years ago. We used to replace the bladders, takes around 10 minutes.
Really easy to do yourself, just deflate the rest of the bladder with a thin Phillips head screwdriver, pull the laces out with the same screwdriver, replace the bladder, put back in, slightly inflate, lace from the middle outwards,, fully inflate.

Just give it a go yourself, not that hard to do and surprisingly hard to accidentally puncture the bladder.

Send it off to Sherrin (6 Dalmore Drive Scoresby), all the balls have a lifetime warranty I'm pretty sure. If you can't be bothered Sportsmart will do it for you but charge around $15.
