Looked really stiff & uncomfortable tonight, but was overall pretty good.
Gave hinters that he'll be going at the end of next year, right when the club will be about to peak he said. Hope he's bloody right.

Didn't he say he thought us to finish 8th in 2009, pushing around 4th or 5th in 2010 and then a threat in 2011? But yeah he did hint, quite obviously, that he'd be leaving next year.
It's hard when people like Hutchy says that Peter Jackson and other Essendon people over-rate our list. I think we have some good young kids but can't see enough consistency yet. Hopefully in the next couple of years it will all come together

Yeah I think you're spot on, thus why I said, 'about to peak.'
The kids will gel together and work as a fantastic team, no doubt about that, when that is though is anyones guess...
Yeh im hoping with a really successful draft this year that also some of our young guys can fulfill their potential...and dare i say it lucas and lloyd to hang around and play well for another 2 or 3 years without taking opportunities from players like Neagle, Gumbie, etc that in 2011 we could be a threat.
Just interesting whether we can really be a strong side if we do finish around 8th next year. Or do we need to bomb out for another year? Don't get me wrong I'd love to finish 8th next year rather that 15/16 but will we get enough high picks this year to stock us up?

I thought he went ok considering he knew what questions where going to come from Caro and Hutchy.
I have to say he could have attacked Hutchy a bit more when they put up nhe news article as evidence that Jackson said we would be top 4 in 2010 as the article clearly said pushing up to the top four which is pretty much saying we expect to be in the 4th to 6th area.
He headed off any drama's about our drafting by saying we stuffed up in 2000 and 2001 and it was on record in the club minutes (which it is). Even when Hutchy fired back a few names he basicly killed the question by saying agin yes we got a couple of drafts wrong.
Hutchy tried to trip him over a few times be handled the questions pretty well. He looked a bit uncomfortable sitting there in that style of format. It is really a bit like a star chamber with four people lined up on the other side ready to attack from all angles.
Anyway back to the guts of what he said. I doubt i am on the same page as him as far as rating our list goes. I think we are in a bit more trouble than he said but in saying that when he answers that he thinks we have some good young kids and a list that has the potential to develop into a good side then you can not complain too much. He was pretty up front about where he thought the drafting was at and clubs have to be a bit "bullish" about what they think the young players can achieve. At least they now aknowledge that the real problem area ins with the middle tier of the list and have started weeding out that area.

Peter Jackson handled himself well and and gave an honest and decent appraisal of our list and club.
We should be pushing top 8 next year - no doubt about it.
He outlined our mistakes.. we were excluded from first round in 99 and stuffed the 00 and 01 drafts.
We have a good young list that needs to develop was the constant theme.

Why put that that extra pressure on Knights and the players??
I think realistically we 2 years away from making the 8 at best depending on injuries.

Tend to agree, to be honest next year will be our last chance of getting the top juniors before GC come in.
It's quite simple.
We will have a core that is 22-26 next year of Winderlich, Watson, Stanton, Lovett, Lovett-Murray, Slattery, Dempsey, Davey, Lonergan, Welsh, Monfries, McPhee.
If this core with the older guys and young kids can't get us into finals next year then they wont the year after or the next 5 years.
He was comfortable with Hutchison, especially when he brought up our 3 recent years in the basement. PJ had no hesitation responding that the previous coach was relieved of duty as a consequence. Quite emphatic.
We all know the core group needs to be in that 22 - 26 range with 70 to 100 games of experience. Based on the above group it's full of holes so IMO it's not good enough to be a regular finals contender, you need to look at the next group pushing through with a couple of the above mentioned players to make us a strong club again. When names like Neagle, Hislop, Reimers, Myers, Gumby, Ryder, Houli ad to Stanton, Slattery, Watson and Lonergan in that 'magical' age and games bracket then I think when we will be a stronger club heading towards sustained success.
Look at their performances this year, apart from Davey, Dempsey and Lonegran have all come under attack from the media and bigfooty posters.
Who cares about the media or bigfooty.
Winderlich has been injured, Watson also, Stanton is getting back to form and becoming a better player, Lovett is the most consistent he has been and the others are solid players that are no better or worse than most sides similar types.
These guys will be hitting their peak next year.

We need dramatic turnaround to play finals next year. Two years may be, looking more like three - five year scenario though. The current crop of young bombers seem the best lot we've had for quite some time, but it will take some time for them to mature. Some of them might even go backwards for a period. The next two drafts are absolutely critical to building a competitive team after 2010-11.
