Yep agree here, no need to jump to a crap assessment and conclusion after a game against the biggest body in the league. West did well last year in
the GF, so he was good then and on the stats ok now.

Look, realistically, inside mids are our problem. So is speed out of the pack. We were found out that only Selwood could burrow in and extract the ball.
When he handballed it, we were outclassed by usually 3-4 players around the ball. There was one hitout that I remember vividly, where Selwood got in
and got the ball, looked about 4 times to handball in the tackle, but could only get it to a Freo player, as they had 6 around the ball, we had two.

That was the story all night long.

Secondly, the gameplan needs a re-run, where we kick short to about the 50m arc instead of bombing it long to an outmarked forward who is against
2-3 opponents flooding back. Just got to be smarter. Cannot believe we didn't relook at the gameplan against the Saints in the 09 GF.

What I'm saying is we got to play Simpson, rather than just leave him in the two's, he's either going to make it or else!
Vardy needs to be groomed as a CHF for the future helping out with ruckwork in the forwardline.

Simpson needs to be given every opportunity to play AFL if he puts in a full pre-season, afterall he is 23years of age, he's overdue.

I agree especially the bolded bit. I think club agree too but injury got in the way this year.

If Simpson's back is healed/healing then we keep him and play him. Vardy does look quite the prospect as a CHF. There is room over 22 games for all rucks/vardy to get good game time and for the best to become a lock by year's end.

At 23 Simpson is not old for a 206cm+ first ruck ie. not overdue. In fact he is reaching the threshold where big rucks begin to make their mark. For instance Jacobs has just cracked it at 24, Giles just cracked it at 24, Maric played a fair few games at Adelaide but he has finally learnt enough and at 26 has announced himself as a first ruck. (each of these were traded out or delisted !!)

2000 John Barnes
2001 Clark Keating
2002 Clark Keating
2003 Clark Keating
2004 Dean Brogan
2005 Darren Jolly
2006 Dean Cox
2007 Brad Ottens
2008 Robert Campbell *
2009 Brad Ottens
2010 Darren Jolly
2011 Brad Ottens

Not saying we need another ruckman but history suggests a good monster in September in very important.
2000 John Barnes was no Monster but Essendon was a freak side and as for 2008 if our Monster had of kicked straight from ten mts out . . . .

There's a lot pressure on big Dawson. . . . Just sayin

Yes, Simpson holds the key to a revival and maybe another challenge for a cup. When it comes to rucking, West and Vardy are the cream, this bloke has to be the cake.

Simpson could be the most influential younger player on our list. If he is not good enough it will be a big setback for the 2015 plan.
