I am so bored reading puff pieces on who we might get in Fridays draft, so I decided to look at who we already have on the list that could add something next season. The two I came up with were Narkle and Henry. Really keen to see what they can offer. Any thoughts or other players on our list we as supporters seem to have forgotten.

Ryan Gardner. There's a spot there for him if he's willing to work hard over the pre-season and put his hand up for it.

I think no one has mentioned Mark O'Connor on here for 6 months.

The club promoted him ahead of Zuthrie and Simpson after about half a dozen games at any level.

Sure he was out of his depth at AFL so early but he is a player that athletically would profile as a top end draft pick, he just needs to keep building on his footy skills and nous, and it was his professionalism and fast rate of learning that had the club throw him in the deep end.

Another pre season and who knows he may become an AFL regular next year.

Does Sav count here? I don't think he'll ever be much of a forward but imo shapes as a really intriguing athletic ruck prospect.

At 194cm I don't think he'll ever play in the ruck at AFL level.

Jamaine Jones featured in the best players in the VFL quite a bit last year. Rookies don't have to be upgraded to play in 2018 so I think he's a good smokey to get a few games.

195 but fair enough. He can jump for days, but I just don't see his kicking improving to become a full time key forward. I hadn't considered his height tbh, that puts him in a weird position.

Agree with Henry there. Could push for a few games in the seniors as that 3rd/4th forward. Usually I'd say 3rd forward because of his marking but because he's so quick & athletic he can add some pressure to our forward line as well. Seems to have very good hands, just needs to work on his goalkicking.

At whose expense?

With Lonergan + Mackie retiring, Ruggles was booted :'(:(, so if there is no room for Ruggles, which possie will Gardner play?

Our back line is strong, with Taylor, Tuohy, Henderson, Stewart, Kolo, Bews.

How about half back flanker, Cunico?

Yes, it's important to keep developing the Kittens, but I'm still annoyed that Ruggles wasn't retained.

I agree on Ruggles, but Gardner plays as a key defender , bringing him in allows Taylor to be the third tall and float across half back.
Thanks. Plus Taylor could go forward *ducks for cover* if needed?

I don't think Narkle will contribute much next season. Best case scenario suggests he won't be back playing footy until the middle of the year (and these estimations don't always work out), and you'd expect it would take him a while to get himself even back to the level he was playing prior to the injury as is often the case with ACLs. I wouldn't be expecting to see him push for senior selection until 2019 at the earliest.

O'Connor had a very good year -for a Cat B. Seemed to read the play well , didn't mind the body contact and he is still a kid (I think).

In the VFL you could see him taking the handball option almost every time. Probably (as pointed out by Hamlingja) because he needed more time to embed his kicking style and be confident to run more and deliver by foot and not turn it over. This is his big task over summer. Make or break.

Another interesting kid to watch.

Josh Cowan. Reckon he'll finally get a good run in 2017.

It would be our luck that he gets picked up by some VFL side, plays every round and wins the J. J. Liston Trophy in 2018

great to see C Gregson moving freely at training.
Yup
Indeed.. now keep him running on soft surfaces in Strictly controlled quantities and protect that ****ing foot from being overloaded.!!!
