Too much reliance on big forwards to kick a winning score will only end in failure, the modern game tends to have multiple goalkickers, up to 10-12 in the successful teams, yes, you have to have at least 1 and maybe 2 big targets, but even they have to do their bit when they dont take a mark, even the much maligned decoy role, which at least helps reduce the number of 2 v 1 contests in F50, and at the very least apply some effective tackles to help keep ball in the area

Triple towers structure is sooooooo last year, not one decent side is using it, lol, all the people who thought Tarrant would make a difference, our delivery into F50 is comical most of the time, retention of ball in the F50 is deplorable, forward pressure practically non existent, missed sitter goals early in the 1st Q by Drew and Spitta absolute momentum sappers and buzz killers, we seem to be treating the pill like it is a red hot potato, dont hold it for 1 second, just handball to a team mate, usually within a metre, ready or not

Adelaide just beat us with 3 tall forwards :s

3 tall forwards and Sam Kerridge ffs!!

Our forward set up is terrible. They just all stand together clogging up the corridor.
Where are the leads? Why don't they ever open up and run back with the goal. Why not have 1 player make a long lead then another lead in behind him? Why not pass in short occasionally? Why continue to play with the same strategy that clearly doesn't work? No one in our forward line can take a pack mark yet we continue to kick it up high in hope that just maybe one day someone will take a mark. How can our coaching staff not see that this system will not work with this current team?

We haven't played a decent 4 qtr game......so long this year. Our forwards are suffering from it. Everyone is to blame. Only one way to solve it is to work their war through it.......if and its a big if we settle in and start playing some decent footy come august sept we are as good as anyone for a crack.

This side is a long way away from being a top contender but buts obvious anything can happen these days.

I don't think having the best forwards in the game would help us , with how we just crawl with the ball then
just bomb it to a pack of 5 or 6 players

This may sound stupid but one of the reasons why our forward line doesn't function when we have slow ball movement is because of Lindsay Thomas. Hear me out.

Thomas very very rarely gets on his bike, I'd hate to see his distance covered stats compared to say someone like Ballantyne.

When the ball is coming in slowly, Thomas crowds the forward line and more often than not it is his direct opponent going third man up killing the contest for the big forwards. Tonight I noticed it more than ever. Thomas needs to get up the ground more and start getting a few more inside 50's. He is one of our classiest and creative ball users.
I've been saying this for years, most his goals are junk goals sitting in the goal square taking the kudos for the good work done by everyone else. In games where LT has not played we have failed to kick 100 points only twice. Its not hard to work out that he's not required.

like you said, good forwards get the ball all over the ground, LT doesn't do this.

I'd like to slam Tarrant, Petrie and Black.

9 touches between them to half time is just totally unacceptable.

Tarrant should have never come in after 1 VFL game, especially when in that VFL game he did SFA, 11 touches and he gets a re-call? How about rewarding Mason Wood leading the VFL goal kicking? Jacobs consistently racking up 35+? But they bring in Tarrant after an 11 possession game, can someone please explain that to me?

14 disposals between them at 3/4 time.

Black is put on a serious pedestal around here, but he should have been dropped for Wood weeks ago, you can't tell me Mason would be any worse then Black has been, and at least he will know that his spot isn't concrete.

Majak is a work in progress, but he would have had more of an impact then Tarrant tonight, no question.

Drew, well he's just shown time and time again why he won't be remembered as a great player.

Couldn't agree more Black and Tarrant need to be dropped and Wood needs to come in, we also need to pinch hit boomer down forward I think to give us a completely different set up. 3 out of form forwards is severely clogging up the forward line and the defense is just taking the ball away. Once you get a bit more pace and lead up types in the forward line the ball will come in better, we just bomb it in too much just because we have 3 big targets down there.

Correct should have stopped there. The guys sitting thirteenth on the goal kicking list.

You don't know what direction LT's been given. He's a crumbing forward with the rare ability to clunk a mark. We play three talls and should one of then not mark it we need the likes of LT at their feet trying to scrap a goal. If it's too congested it's ball movement not LT fault.

He's (again) one of the few we need not worry about.

Put it this way he'd get a game at every Club, not sure we have many of those.

When does Petrie or Black ever bust out on a lead anymore? Petrie had 6 Mark of the Year nominations in 2011. He struggles to get any sort of mark now. :(

I predicted Dish would not kick a goal this week and I was 99% correct with him only getting one in last 3 minutes of junk time........I wasnt at all surprised he went missing, Black has to do a lot more and Tazza was very underdone but in fariness had a quality opponent in The Truck Rutten on him first game back.

What shits me is Bons unwillingness to try different things up forward when the setup he goes in with is failing.

How about Ziebell/Petrie leading from the square with Black/Thomas leading towards goal

Get all the talls decoying to the pockets with small forwards/midfielders creating something in front.

Chip the ****ing pill around instead of bombing it in ffs

Midfield definitely needs to step up their game to help the forwards though

According to HS Shaun Mc Kernan may be on the market this year. Worth a look ?

Forward line will always look shit when you don't get it in there.

Our stop start bullshit from defense killed us. 15 i50 to half time. No one wanted to run or link up from half back and we played into their hands.

The amount of times I saw ziebell take a mark then slow down settle and take his time. I tell ya, take it on young lad give and go create soemthing

Before the game;

Cue the Taz haters if he doesnt play well, which is just ridiculous considering how long he has been out.

However I'm very happy to have Robbie back in, provides a great option and will cause some genuine headaches for the Adelaide defenders. Sam Shaw will probably go to him, and Robbie absolutely destroyed him last time they played.

After the game;

Tarrant should have never come in after 1 VFL game, especially when in that VFL game he did SFA, 11 touches and he gets a re-call? How about rewarding Mason Wood leading the VFL goal kicking? Hmmm.

Mate. you could have Roughy up there and wouldnt make a difference.

Got 3 of your players in SC including Petrie, so have been keeping an eye on you guys TV wise.

Your mids bomb it into pack situations, ball movement is too slow.
Your forwards are leading, the kick goes over their head or at their feet, or is ignored, skills issues.
I saw Petrie lead twice last night and get away from Talia, the first kick hit the deck before he got
his hands on it, play on, the second time in the last qtr, one of your mids actually brought Sloan into the equation
by moving into that part of the ground, Sloan took the mark.

You keep asking your talls to goto the well when the service is pretty poor, sooner or later they stop.

Daw, does exactly the same by the way, he takes himself and his player to the contest, you saw that highlighted
last week.

I actually thought that your gameplan was to bomb it into the last 30, create a pack situation and have the
ball goto ground..thats is your game plan..right??

Unless you are watching at the game, you are pretty clueless as to whats happening out there, TV does not
show it all, you will only see glimpses.

Dont bag me, I would be happy if my club had Black or Petrie or Daw, cause we really only have Casboult, and trust
me, I am not saying the service would be any better.

FWIW I thought Tarrant had no impact on the game.....but also his inclusion had no impact on the result.

I'm far more annoyed by our complete and utter shitness in the midfield than the selectors picking Taz (or the forwards output in general)

Fancy trying senior coaching?

I'm only half-joking.
