Forward line?

Stat of the Day

That's the 18th time under Bailey that we have kicked zero or one goals in the first quarter. In the same time frame Richmond have done it 9 times, West Coast 11 and Fremantle 8.

our fwd line is now the under-developed part of our side (duh)
We need to give it a bit more time, we'll have a better idea where we are at the end of this season.
Bailey and co. need to monitor it closely though.
Basically, my point is if this was happening in our premiership window (c. 2012-onwards) I'd be more concerned.

Going into the forward line:
- Don't lead deep into the pockets
- Don't kick it deep into the pockets
- If there are no leads in the forward line, kick it to the top of the square.
- Don't have Paul Johnson as the lone Demon in the forward 50, FFS.

Once in the forward line:
- Mark the ball when it comes near you
- Kick straight when you have ball
- Chase hard if opposition obtain ball

heres a thought... keep forwards in the back... no thats not it, on the wing... NOOOO... what is it again? OH YEAH... IN THE F%#^ING FORWARD LINE!!!!

Watts got 15 possessions, A FORWARD PLAYING HIS 4 GAME SHOULDNT!!! he should be kicking goals (got over capitals)

Stupid thread, we have had no forward line issues since round 1. How about the midfield hit a target instead? I think you will be amazed how much better the forward line will function if you can hit someone on the chest.

Sadly thats were the ball was coming from all day. No confidence in kicking to the fat side at this stage. Once Watts is hitting packs like Kennedy was today it will be different.

bring in... petterd, Jurrah, wonna, morton and watts

You just lost all credability.........you know he is out for the season, yeah?
Or did you just think that we dropped our most promising forward this year???

I think he is saying with all those inclusions we will certainly look at play a hell of a lot better

Chuck in Neitz and the Ox and we're looking even better.

I would seriously consider trading Matthew Bate. He'd have considerable value. I'm sick of him putting in a good performance every 3 games and then 2 shockers. His best games aren't even amazing.

Hurt his ankle in the first quarter and never looked right after that.

A bit harsh on the Bate-a-tron, MM. As mentioned above, he was injured early, but also it was never going to be a game when forwards starred due to the shocking delivery. DB has said as much on the MFC website.

But, it would be interesting to see who we might get for him. Still, at this stage I'd be inclined to hang on to him. Better the devil you know and all that.

Pressure all over was soft yesterday, but yeah, love a bit of forward-line pressure. Sure, we might not mark it every time it comes into the forward line, big deal, but when no one follows up by pressuring the defenders it's a pretty soft effort.

PJ is in the same league of awfulness as McPhee and Raph Clarke. Not even joking. :thumbsd:

EDIT:

Serious? ouch....

Agreed; that's a really damning stat.

Throw Petterd, Jurrah and Wonaeamirri in there and suddenly our forward line looks far more potent. Unlucky that our best forwards have been out with injury.

McPhee and Clarke are still ahead of PJ.
Epic Failure is in a league of his own.

Bate's weapon used to be that he could kick a long ball. I can't recall him doing that for ages and I swear his kicking style has changed. He's a more accurate set shot but can't kick it as far.

If the Gold Coast are a bit loose with throwing around their draft picks, we should consider it.

didnt get to watch the game btw

I wouldn't suggest watching it unless you're a masochist, but if you do you'll learn everything you need to know about his putrid performance.
