No-one has mentioned Russell. All year he was bagged for not getting enough of the footy and lack of conversion (which is fair enough), but the one thing he has been good at, and the one thread he should cop some credit, and not a sighting.
HIs role this year has been predominantly as a defensive HFF. Playing a lone hand at times trying to apply some pressure to the runners coming off half back.
A couple of names that have been mentioned may do quite well.
Walker, Grigg and Hoops.
The problem with Hoops is he is very offensive and the defensive side of his game doesn't come naturally, but when he does it and works hard he can be very good. Last year he played to of his best games for us defensively - Cleaing up Davey as a BP, and then playing on McLeod as a defensive HFF.
Grigg looks to be settling in across HB and I don't think we should move him just yet. Looked very nervous on devut last year and has just got his confidence, so he should be left down back and with runs on ball to consolodate this year.
Walker is the obvious choice. My only issue with Tex is that when he came back he tended to work against Fev, and not with him, often flying for the same ball, leaving opponents on the ground to clen aup the spillage, but with some work he could do the job.
I think Gibbs could rotate into this role as well. Strong defensive side of his game, good set shot and reads the play well.
As for Betts not having any defensive side to his game............is that a joke?![]()
It's about the only side to his game at the minute.
