We would love a few spare quality midfielders at the moment, and it sounds like Foster will be promoted and selected if and when his form warrants it, but having never seen him play, just wodering if those that have could describe the type of mid he is? Skills, pace, size, hardness etc, what does he bring? Cheers

KP Junior - this is my short description of him:

Andrew Foster
Likely AFL Position: Wing
Footskills: Average (Eg. Andrew Browne)
Pace: Fast (Eg. Equivalent to Tarrant)
Size: 183cm (Eg. Ricciuto's Height)
Endurance: Very Strong Endurance runner (Eg. Peake like)
Ball Magnetism: Gets a lot of it at WAFL level

So where does he need to improve to crack a game? How is he body size- wise?

He is good body-wise.

I can only guess, but skills and experience are likely the main factor. coupled with the fact he is a rookie. At the moment a guy like Walker or Duffield who are also speedy, comes back to the WAFL every now and then and gets his token 30+ possessions and spray it everywhere. Given his skill level is roughly the same but his AFL experience level is behind, he needs to seriously improve his skill level to get past these guys who have a head start over him.

I am quietly confident he will find himself upgraded and playing Friday night. There is no real reason behind this...just one of those hunches.

Foster is in the state team to play Vic this weekend. Bit of a dilemma for him and the club if they want to play him this weekend. Upgrade and make his AFL debut, or play for his state...

I prefer my wild suppositions and baseless claims to your cold logic. I reckon that he would take the AFL debut if given the choice though.

Surley Collard is more likely to debut? They won't play them both.

Will Collard have gotten much fitter in one week? Unless CC has figured that the Saints wont even have 22 available so it wont matter if the other CC can run out a game.

It was prior to the hawthorn game that he had a fitness test, so it has been 2 weeks. I reckon he joined the main squad around early March, so his fitness could have improved considerably going from 10 weeks training to 12 weeks depending on how much work they have been giving him.

With a name like Clayton Collard he is screaming out for a nickname, but all I can come up with is coca-cola, which is lame.

Fair call, I just think CC (coach) has a bit of a pathological fear of not having 22 fit men at the end of the match. It happened each week for the first few and since then there have been zero selection risks.

IMO if Josh Carr fails to get off the 1 week suspension we will almost be down 2 midfielders with hase not a definate starter yet. Think Foster almost has to be an automatic inclusion if Josh fails.

Fit midfielders in the WAFL: Foster, Cook, Ibbotson
Sort of midfielders: Drum, Gilmore, Collard

Isn't it something like $3-4k match payment for a rookie. Given he's only on $25K or so that might make up his mind for him.

I think if Carr is out though they'll bring in Cook.

Well with the teams announced in a couple of hours for this weekend's games, and no news on an upgrade for Andrew Foster, it looks as though he'll be having a weekend off as East Freo have the bye this round... Thought he might be just about there after a great game on Monday, but looks like it's not to be....
