He is, and he can lift a team, but IMO he's too inconsistent to be a leader.

Buckley lifs the team, but even on off days he's still OK. On a Rocca off day, he is off the planet

agree with that, still think that Ant is our best leader outside of Bucks and Jimmy, he just has a massive presence about him, players walk taller knowing he is around

You've lost me there. I cant see what the relevance of the fitness of Buckley Clement and Johnson is to Frasers willingness to lead.
My point is that given the injuries to those guys as well, his position as deputy vice captain actually requires him to captain the side, and in his condition, he probably feels that he is unable to live up to that mantle.

That was always a possibility of occurring. Thats the point of leadership groups - to make sure that if one or two a missing, the others in the group can step up. Its poor form from Fraser, if its been reported correctly.

I am surprised he is stepping down and I am a little concerned as to why but I am not particularly upset. I have never seen Fraser as an on field leader and I hope he isn’t made captain. If his stepping down reduces the chances of him being captain after Buckley or Clement then it is a good thing IMO. I would have put money on him being captain within 3 years but now I am not so sure. I just hope Heath Shaw wins the next 2 Copelands and they feel confident enough in his form to make him a young captain.

Even though Burns is not in the leadership group I would love the club to appoint him interim captain until Buckley returns. I know that bypasses Clement when he is fit but he isn’t fit right now and he can get the gig next year. I think Burns would be a universally celebrated appointment, it would give him due recognition and it would inspire the troops. Sit heat at his elbow every step of the way and tell him to watch and learn.

He is a future leader, no doubt, but obviously he thinks that the role is too much to handle with form, fitness, consistency and all those others not right.

Good to see the depth in the leadership department too I guess.

Please tell me why you have no doubt. Frankly we have heard this since he was drafted at 1 and first spoke well not long after on TV. Apart from being well spoken what leadership qualities does he have? Will he drive players to perform? Will he inspire? Will he lead by example? Will he risk life and limb like Scott Burns and make everyone stand taller? What are the qualities that make Josh Fraser a leader of men?

Not convinced.

I am surprised and a little disappointed, but will get over that very quickly if Josh continues the form he showed against Carlton. As long as he's playing well, the rest will take care of itself.

This was mentioned ages ago. My belief is although he was also trumpeted as a future leader he has lived at Collingwood with a Glass Ceiling in the form of Nathan Buckley. Imagine at any work place knowing while Mr X is there you will never advance any further, it would effect your output.

Bucks tried to step down this year but Eddie stood in his way and "convinced" him to stay. Ed has a certain image he wants the Club to portray(so he can sell that image to sponsors), part of that image is having Bucks as leader.

hehehehe
