Are there any good one's you know of that are free to download, so you can create your music. An where?

I'm not sure of what freeware is around, other than trial versions sorry mate, but if you don't mind paying a fair bit (or downloading elsewhere ;)), Cubase could also be worth looking into.

I've never tried Ableton Live, so no idea if that does the same stuff - I've been using Cubase for a while now, and haven't really kept up with what else is out there (other than ProTools and Pro Logic which are similar, and also been around a while). Pretty steep learning curve if you're not familiar with music software, but well worth the trouble. There's plenty of tutorials around for it. Can pretty much do the whole process in Cubase - recording (incl Midi), editing, mixing etc.

Some awesome addons available for Cubase too, which either make things a little easier or sound better, for example...

Drumkit From Hell/EZdrummer/Superior Drummer
- single hit sampled drumkits - has 1000's of samples per drumkit, like for left hand, right hand, various velocities for each drum etc. Not sure who recorded the later versions, but the original DFH was recordings of Tomas Haake (Meshuggah). I know Meshuggah has used DFH themselves on at least one album. EZdrummer and Superior are the follow ups to DFH - I use EZdrummer myself, Superior the higher end one though.
