These guys know how to keep a secret. First Lyon then Sumich. Usually the media is all over everything.

Best thing about our club at the moment.

Really good sign, shows there are no destabilizing factions and everything is running seamlessly behind the scenes to finally steer this club where it should be.

That is a very good sign but only time will tell if they are making the correct decisions.

Jumper Change - Bad (IMO)
Lyon appointment - Good
Sumich - verdict out.

Hopefully they get judged accordingly in the future.

Jumper change -> increased funds from merchandise sales -> appointing Lyon

If off-field changes help the FFC (business) implement changes that will hopefully lead to on-field success - then it doesn't bother me. I reckon they've got another 50 years of my lifetime in which to get a premiership.

I think all 3 have been great decisions.

I am not as outraged as some about the jumpers but think it could have been handled better. If I felt that 70% of my fellow members had voted this way and this was the result, I would have no lingering doubts.

But to call them great decisions? It is a bit early. They are very decisive decisions yes but time will tell. I totally agree with Lyon and to some extent Sumich as they are of the opinion they are better coaches then what we had but, I hope in 5 years when we look back on this they are judged accordingly.

When you make such decisions you need to be held accountable as with any job. That is all I am saying. They are putting their Kahunas on the line and they should be applauded for that.

Alright for some having 50 years.I need it to happen in the next five.
I am really impressed with changes our leaders have made.Lion will be great and Sumich will be a tremendous head assistant.

I went to a talk and question session with worsfold as the speaker a couple of years ago. Worsfold could barely answer our questions. His response was usually well Peter Sumich is actually responsible for that part of the programme................. it was obvious that Suma played a very significant role .

last year jumper change, this year coach stealing. wonder how they'll surprise us next off season.

A normal off-season with no disruption would be great

In other words, nothing that'll cause me to go flying off the broom handle and become full of anger and bitterness

Jumper Change - Bad (IMO) window dressing that brings in dollars, and puts a few people off-side in the short-term
Lyon appointment - Good Gutsy move that costs many dollars, but that maximises our chances of being GF contenders
Sumich - verdict out. Considering he managed the midfield that created pathways for Judd at stoppages, Hill should be pretty happy about the appointment

Hopefully they get judged accordingly in the future.

Judge them now I say.

One of the Steves sneezing would do that wouldn't it?

How can I judge a coach until I see his gameplan and form a view about how the team responds - be that Lyon or Sumich? I can see the logic behind both appointments but the success of their appointments will be measured first and foremost in wins and losses. Pretty simple.

As for the rebranding, you can't possibly judge that over one year. Every young Freo supporter will have badgered their parents for the new gear this year. The real test is whether it keeps selling AND whether the increased sales sufficiently outweigh the costs of what would have been an expensive rebranding process. Otherwise, to be fair, you recognise the opportunity cost - money might have been better spelt elsewhere and 2011 and beyond may have been a better platform for success.

Most successful businesses determine remuneration on long term incentives and more limited short term incentives. This recognises that human greed can lead people to trash an environment to make a quick buck and move on. And, no, this is not a specific comparison to the recent changes at Freo but only time will tell if they are successful

You are judging their performance, not the actual appointments.

They are two different things.

The fact is we have lured arguably the best coach in the land and a highly experienced assistant with a proven track record at a successful club.

You compare that with what we had last year, and every year before that, and you make the call.

Don't the kids in your house grow??

Little Johnny will be giving Dad the shits for a new strip every year for years to come.

So tell us again: Why would demand suddenly cease or massively decrease??

If we have onfield success in 2012 sales will continue to climb rapidly.

If we win a flag then the sky is the limit.

But for now, it HAS to be classed as a raging success.

No.

Most businesses determine revenue streams based on prudent budgeting, sound marketing and wise decision making.

Sure I am judging performance. They can appoint Nelson Mandela as far as I care and I wouldn't be impressed unless he could prove to manage this football team.
You're correct. Kids grow. But little Johnny would have still grown if he was wearing the original design. What needs to be measured is the number of new kids who suddenly want the gear (over and above the sales trends of the previous stuff) and then subtract the costs of the rebrand.
Not sure why you'd say "no". I agree with the wise decision making - my point is merely that its wisdom is measured over a longer term rather than 1 year for the rebrand and 3 weeks for Lyon's appointment. Sound marketing? well that (rebranding, really) is what I am suggesting needs to be measured. If it is a professional organisation, it will do so using fairly standard metrics

What does Nelson Mandela know about AFL?

Not many people know, but Nelson was one of the best spoiling defenders South Africa has ever produced. Here he is giving a speech to fans describing how he won the GF for the Jo'burg Lions with a well-timed spoil:

Nah, I'm really not that petty at all, last I checked.

I only fly off the broom handle when something happens that I oppose, nothing more.

I mean the rebrand for instance, in terms of financial success, yes it's achieved its goal of giving the club cash but that's only one year.

Will the demand still exist year after year, now that the majority are decked out? That's the question that needs to be answered

As I don't have a business background I look at the rebrand from a visual point of view and in my mind they missed the mark. The logo looks horrendous and the chevrons don't look good either. The way it was announced and implemented (with no discussion among the members and misleading polls) was also wrong thus I naturally got pissed off with the Steves.

As for the Mark Harvey sacking, I still think it's wrong however I have grudgingly accepted it for the simple reason that there's no point being angry and bitter about something you can't control.Me grudgingly accepting it isn't a vote for the Steves at all, it's more a realisation that there's no point arguing or complaining as I'm just going to be ignored regardless. Of course, I was naturally pissed off at the Steves for shafting Harvey but I know now it's all on the Steves to give Lyon the environment to deliver the success we all crave.

Of course this decision works in one of two ways. It either leads to success for the Fremantle Football Club (which I've always wanted) or if we should miss finals next year it leads to the Steves being put under unprecedented pressure and possibly being forced to resign.

Everyday of the week I would prefer success as opposed to seeing someone resign but then again, if the Steves were forced out, I'd then become a member and financial contributor to the club I love which I think would give me more satisfaction and maybe cause less instances of flying off the broom handle.

Sorry for the essay but I'm not here to cause an argument, more to explain why I fly off the broom handle at the Steves and wish for an off-season where nothing happens so I don't have to do this.

A lot of the change at Freo seemed to be board driven and I suspect Richard Goyder driven.

Perhaps...
Freo = Wesfarmers
Lyon = Coles

it was a business style takeover if I ever saw one.

I hope with Goyder leaving the freo board to become an AFL commissioner that the reformist zeal doesn't run out of puff.
