Friday hearing for Warne - February 19, 2003
SHANE Warne's drugs case hearing will be held on Friday, the Australian Cricket Board said today.
The hearing will be held at the ACB's headquarters in Melbourne from 9.30am (AEDT).
Warne faces a possible two-year ban from cricket after being charged with testing positive to the banned diuretics hydrochlorothiazide and amiloride on January 22.
The ACB has assembled a three-person panel to hear Warne's case - experienced Queensland judge Justice Glen Williams, former Test spinner Peter Taylor and medical specialist Dr Susan White.
Warne returned home from the World Cup in South Africa last week without bowling a ball after being informed of the positive test.
His defence, so far, is that he was given a weight loss tablet by his mother, Brigitte, and was unaware it contained the banned substances.
The Australian Sports Drug Agency today released Warne's B sample to the ACB after the leg-spinner waived his right to challenge the validity of the testing procedure, clearing the way for a hearing date to be set.
Ay Carumba!
