Why do we only have 2 Friday night games this year despite finishing second last year ?:(
North and even mediocre Richmond/Collingwood have more, despite North being North and the latter 2 teams finishing significantly lower on the ladder ....

I wish we had some away ones- as I love flying over for them (as we never get *real* Friday night home games because of Vic-centric scheduling anyway :()
Our Richmond Friday night win last year was a highlight of the season )

I hope we at least get the Friday night slot in round 23 v Adelaide- it will be a cracker :)

They dont like Perth friday night games due to it stuffing the tv schedule up over east.

Maybe they dont give many away ones due to us having to travel a day or so earlier

The Rd23 Friday night game will most likely be Norf vs GWS - the Giants haven't had a go in that timeslot this year and have obviously exceeded expectations so it makes sense.

Doesn't really bother me too much but it would be nice to get a couple more Friday night games in Melbourne. It's a good test for us as a fairly young side.

It's not a Giants home game (and North/Giants crowd/atmosphere would be subpar compared to the Crows/Eagles- crows have been averaging over 50k at home this year too)
Crows are in a similar situation to us - only got 2 Friday night games , and deserve more
And North have had far too many Friday night games (and this would be their home game as opposed to GWS')
I'll be annoyed if North v GWS get it but also won't be surprised unfortunately

a 7.30 start at subs is 9.30pm in melbourne in Winter - 10.30 with daylight saving early in the season

greedy TV and AFL - after all it is entertainment not a sporting comp with integrity

Double headers on a Friday night a few times a season would be a good compromise
Would let the eastern states get a prized early night game for once too
Even 6.40 (instead of 5.40 or 6.10) like it used to be a few years ago would be an improvement

Felt like the Blues played every 2nd Friday last year. Was such a shitty start to the weekend. That alone should prove how they stack the cards.

I don't see what's wrong with scheduling 6:20 starts in WA if 9:50EST is too late? Surely 8:20 isn't too late for a Friday night when Vic games already start at 7:50.

We also do play a lot on Sunday, which does make the Friday night scheduling difficult. We already have a number of 6 day breaks as it is, and I believe limiting that is one of our only requests in relation to the fixture. (That, and more games at the G.)

We also have a Thursday night game at home this year, against the Dons. Which isn't Friday, granted, but still has the national attention as a standalone Friday night game does.

Even having many sunday games in itself is unfair given we finished 2nd.
North has the same number of 6 day breaks as we do, but have many more friday night games this year

I thought WCE asked for Saturday night as there preference , would help with travel and back-up breaks not being too short .
We only have 2 Saturday night games, despite having 2x as many potentially available slots.
In fact, we don't have any away night games at all.
Basically, we seem to have been shafted with a fixture more suitable for an unsuccessful (on and off the field) team....

They need to change the 4:40 Sunday timeslot- it really is a graveyard for the Melbourne teams. They tried that with a Essendon v Collingwood game and had half the expected crowd show up, and there was an outcry. (Mostly Eddie, but the guy just doesn't shut up when his precious pies are inconvenienced in any way)

They know we will rock up regardless, so easy for them to put us in the late game and not lose a crowd, or tv audience. So we will continue to get that slot no matter where we finish, as will freo.

It feels like Richmond is on prime time every weekend. Getting really tired of watching that flog Vickery and Dustin Martin, who looks like a super-bogan built out of parts from lesser bogans.

Replace them with a Thursday game and/or a Friday Night Double HEader (oh wait, fickle Melbourne supporters wouldn't show up then either ....)
I don't even recall the outcry (and I remember mitigating factors relating to the crowd ie the teams involved performing slowly) despite Eddie's whinging haha but I'll take your word for it :D

This annoys me :/. But you're probably right. We're a victim of our own success
Unlike Collingwood and Richmond
And even North

Me too. They play again on Friday night (against North of all teams) next week too Urgh.

Freo seem to have a lot of Saturday night games though

At least we have the Thursday night against Essendon :womanshat: but the Hawks Friday game is a huge game !!

We had more night games (3x friday night games, and 8(!) saturday night games in the home and away season alone) last year, despite finishing much lower in 2014 than we did in 2015. So much for rewarding performances.

I loved our saturday evening home games last year (the early start isn't such a bad thing on saturday as there's no rush to get there from work, and it leaves the option of dinner/heading out afterwards) , and also liked some of our away saturday games for the same reason.

I don't mind not having many Friday night games. Clubs only want them for the exposure so they can get more members and more money, neither of which we really need. I'd rather Saturday night, particularly if they're being played here so that getting to the ground isn't a nightmare.

Fewer Sunday 'twilight' games would be my preference. They love sticking the WA teams with them because they're actually Sunday afternoon games for us so they can have the fixture without the all important Victorians complaining about how they finish too late for the kiddies on a school night to attend. The result is we (and Freo) get stuck with a crap fixture that pretty much always ensures we have to play interstate off a six-day break the next week.

I'm ok with 2 home Friday night games (3 would've been better), but I wanted some away ones!

I think that would be most supporters' preference too. But so much for rewarding teams based on performances....
It's the bottom teams who should get timeslots like the ones we've ended up with...

Dont give s rats arse about fri nighters would rather put my efforts into getting g time - not just when we are up - having players develop and being used to the place

Whining about not getting fri nights is for povvo teams making excuses for the fact that noone likes them.
