I actually disagree with this call. Should be Eagles. Over the past few years the AFL have been changing rules on the fly to favour the top team--for example making up that lower team wears clash jumper.

If West Coast win they cop a six day break and flight to Melbourne. If the Dees beat them they cop the same plus they're travelling From Melbourne.

West coast Friday and tigers Saturday makes sense. But I'll take it

Flights make no difference at all. It's a silly myth. When you play interstate it's harder because of the crowd noise, the umpires, the dimensions of the away ground, the inability to have a comfortable environment in the lead up and less effective sleep in a foreign environment.

If we play E-Girls at the MCG in the grand final the above won't change. If we play GoDees there is no advantage other than to have an extra day rest, such is our right for finishing higher on the ladder.

I do think the effect of travel is greatly overrated, and intenrational studies reflect that. But I also think this concept that the #1 team gets all the preferential times, home Guernsey etc has just appeared out of nowhere over the past few years

True but having said that, home and away strips only popped up the last few years as well so it only makes sense.

Yeah I don't hate The H&A strip in isolation-I disliked it last year as the 'top side gets it's home strip' policy was introduced half an hour after we won our prelim. Typical of the AFL to introduce rules on the fly rather than make cautious policies in advance.

My gripe, despite it working for us, is the seeming benefit for each advantage for the top side. Specifically the day of fixturing which will have an effect on the game.

This year it works for us and we get a prelim final opponent on a six day break after having two weeks off, then if we win a GF opponent with a day's less rest. It may not work so well for us in the future.

The afl still don't have consistent rules about "clash" strips. Last year in the qf Geelong had to wear white shorts and we wore the black jumpers, this despite us being the 'away' team.

Imagine Geelong plays Richmond in a granny, no way will we wear the yellow jumper. Or imagine North play Collingwood in the granny as the home team (use lots of imagination, I know), the AFL will be forced to get north to wear their sportsgirl jumper or else deal with the only 'real' clash on the biggest day of the year.
