Along with other issues such as goal scoring and lack of 4 quarter efforts, one of our main concerns will be who will fill the full back role for the next few weeks. Basset out for at least 4 weeks is a huge concern.

In the coming weeks we will have to contend with the following opposition forwards: Kingsley, Tredders, Lloyd or Hird, Richardson or Ottens and possibly Barry Hall . I cant recall how long he is out for, either way we need a big bloke with strength and speed in form down there so that we are settled for the Bombers, Power and Tiges. So who is our best option?

Crowell or McGregor - I have to admit, they have been OK recently. Crowell's chase and smother in the first quarter on Sunday was excellent but I still dont have too much faith in these guys. Crowell is very quick across the ground, but his ability to gather the ball and dispose of it is too slow. May not be strong enough for Lloyd or Richo.

Biglands - This would bring Marsh into the side as our second ruck. however I like the Clarke/Biglands combo and I'm not sure Marsh has played well enough at Wests.

Stevens - He is winning his current spot. Leave him be.

Our SANFL options are:

Marsh - what has he done at Wests?

Hewitt - Would be the best bet. This time last year he slotted into CHB quite well and I was hoping he could hold it down at the start of the year.

Smith - doing OK and still learning his stuff in defence at the Port Magpies.

Rutten - played good footy all year. Currently playing in a back pocket at Wests.

I'm hoping Hewitt will be brought in but I would not be suprised to see Rhett down there.

Thoughts?

Yep we will miss Bassett. However if my calculations are correct based on him missing 4 games he will miss Geelong, Sydney, Essendon & Power games. For a start Ben Hart will have to return to the backlines permantly. I would put Smart or Ben Hart on Kingsley. McGregor on Graham. Barry Hall won't play he will still be suspended. He got 5 games. I don't see a huge threat at FF for Sydney. Smart can handle this game. Lloyd isn't huge. Again Smarty can handle him or at least I would give him first crack. Tredrea plays CHF not FF. I would have Ken McGregor on him. I actully don't think it is a huge worry. Thats my thoughts anyway.

This week is not a problem as Geelong play a small forward line. Smart will match up well on the under-rated Kingsley, leaving Kenny to play on Mooney. Hart must play on the dangerous Riccardi (please, Gary don't play Crowell on him!) So with Johnson & Stenglein likely to return for the injured Bassett & unlucky Nelson (I don't think they will risk Gags this week).

The following week against Sydney, they don't have Barry Hall, so quite frankly we won't miss Bassett too much, as I can't see the Swans forward line putting the fear of death into us.

A fired up Essendon could be a real test. Smart must play on Lloyd (Gary please note not Hart, like I warned you last time). Kenny will be OK on Lucas. Essendon often play another tall ruckman forward (ie. Allesio, Salmon or Hille), so we probably would need either Hewitt or Perrie to come into the side (hopefully along with a fit Welshy).

Whilst the Hound out is a loss, he probably needed to chill-out for a while to get his mind at ease. He has looked a bit stressed lately with all the tantrums, so he can now freshen himself up for finals action.
