Werent the crows doing lots of ball work during the pre season, we are fumbling everything (its the start of the second qtr) we are doing far too many handpasses and are not taking anything cleanly.
Where are the umps from, we are geting done so far, a new season and the umps are no better.
Well hope it gets better.

I dont know what the free kick count ended up but there were at least 2 missed on Schell 1 on Fitzgerald and another (on Perrie late in the game) that sticks in my mind -That should have all been paid.

Any'ow we won so Im wrapped and of course they probably claim a couple too.:o

I think the free kick count ended up being 7-14 against (as per usual). It's not so much the free they paid the Bullies, but the equivalent free they keep missing for us. Also, the inconsistency is shocking, as part way through the game they decide to swollow the whistle for most of a quarter, then pick out a technical free against Biglands. Also, where was the prior-opportunity when Doughty was given caught holding the ball in the first quarter, yet we can't buy one is the last quarter (eg. Goody on Smith? when pushed in the back by West). They should decide on one interpretation & stick to it for the game (not a quarter) & then also for following weeks. Could of been worse I suppose, as McLaren could of been umpiring!

Fitzy's two goals from frees were useful. But what's new when in Melbourne to have a low count!!

re fumbles - well both sides were doing that - and we only notice our own team and the impact it might have on the passage of play.

Overall, I liked the way the Crows played but do worry about the nummber of times they don't score when inside 50.

I thought Gary Lyons comments were on the money during the call yesterday when he stated that the Crow defenders would be nervous when the ball goes in to the Crows forward line (because often we were being caught on the rebound due to a turnover).

Scott Welsh was magnificent in one passage of play where he tackled and fought hard to keep the ball inside our F50 when they got it. This needs to happen more often IF we turn it over.
Does anyone else think we were a bit top heavy in the Fwd line?

There doesn't need to be prior opportunity to be be paid holding the ball. He probably made no ATTEMPT to correctly dispose within a reasonable time.

Welsh's second and third efforts during the preseason has been a real bonus. I also agree that we have too many talls, Ayres has been doing that for a couple of years. This time however we may have a good combination.

Gazza is alo not too happy with some of the stuff being said about the club's forward line structure. Channel 9 news showed a clip tonight from the press conference where he described some of the comments about our forwards as being bull****. I wonder who it is who keeps getting up his nose as he said the same thing last year?

I think it is our shortage of good crumbers that causes concerns and media comments. You can't produce another Darren Jarman overnight. I think we are on the right track with a tallish forward line given the list we have but a quality small forward should be a priority next draft/trade - hopefully its not too long to wait.

I feel Tyson Edwards and Matthew Bode are meant to have that role but also Macca comes in to do that role as well from the midfield.

I think Welsh has a dual role is to do that as well and to take the fly when appropriate.

Forward Setup

I thought our forward setup looked pretty good this week and that they did a bloody good job.... particularly considering the relatively poor delivery of the ball into the forward lines again....this is not just a personal opinion but one evidenced by the stats...when we get that right, then away we goooooo!!!!!

Great effort by the boys.....the doggies didn't give us the game....true to form they fought it out to the end.

Rucci. He hates Gary for some reason and continually refers to forward line structure, tactics, planning as if Gary's got no idea what he's doing. Of course, Ferret Head's record as a coach is second to none, isn't it??

On 5AA, Billy Hodges said that there was a lot of tension between Ayres and Rucci.

Ayresy's got it tough when the chief football writer of the only newspaper in town is almost Port's PR manager.

I was shocked yesterday when Rucci absolutely bagged Port though, soft was the word he used on 5AA.

Rucci often bags port. He is a port supporter but he isnt as blatantly one eyed as everyone whinges about. Anyway...who cares....we have Rucci.....you have KG, Cornesy, David Burtenshaw, Kym Dillon, Neil Kerley and that fukwit Warren Campball (who writes for the advertiser...first name might not be warren)

Lance Campbell and you have Kevin Crease, Rob Kelvin, Chris Dittmar, Bruce Abernethy, and I would hardly say Cornesy is a Crows supporter these days, more like a fence sitter, well isn't every Glenelg supporter one of them anyway?

 They only time Rucci has gone hard at Port Power is when the Jack Cahill thing blew up. I've sat in the press box during an Adelaide game with a mate and all I could hear was Rucci barracking for the opposition.

Agree with you sapaul. Port's constant whinging about a lack of coverage doesn't equate to who's actually in the media.

You can add to that list John Riddell from Channel 7 News who despises Adelaide and that fuknut Peter Goers from the Sunday Mail who seems to think he's got Port Power in his veins because he wears a Port Power beanie.

Yeah I heard the same dribble about Port being soft. They lose one game and the "soft" word is bandied about and not just by Rucciboy.- Bit harsh; Same wouldve been said about the Crows had they lost

If Williams is worth his salt he'll use it against the Doggies

The Rucci/Ayres thing has been on since Gary got here. At GA's first press conference, Rucci asked him why he left Geelong. Gary answered him, however Rucci was'nt happy with the reply and asked him a couple more times. When Gary refused to answer him, rucci had a sook about it on 5AA and it has been tense between them ever since. Rucci did make an effort to talk him up in todays paper however.

I was also thinking that Gary may have been ticked off with comments by other SA media people like McDermott and Kerley. Kerleys recent comments that we dont have one good ruckman let alone 2 and that we have no wingmen would'nt have gone down well at AFC.

The hawks had the same thing happen to them with the umpires. We had three inexperienced umpires umpiring our match on the Easter Monday.

But to make things worse the hawks did not concentrate on beating Melbourne.
