Since it's a slow news day I thought I would bore you all with this question again. If Roo retires in 3 years who on our list could fill the captaincy shoes and command the same degree of respect from the supporters and peers.

For me it's a toss up between Stiffy and Thompson.

tredders, we all know hes keen to captain ;)

but i would put my 2 cents on thompson, early days i know but he showed that little something against the pies, take no crap sort of attitude

Was talking to an Adelaide Crows defender (wont name any names) at work about a week and a half ago and “player X” said that Brent Reilly has a very good chance to become the captain one day. He also intimated that Chris McDermott was not that far of the mark with big John Meesen as a contender for the captaincy as well one day, very good talker on the track.

Thompson: Long way to go before he proves himself, but if the first glimpses are indicative....highly probable.
Stiffy: A smokey, but he is inspirational. I question if he would want the responsibility, as he just seems to enjoy playing footy.

For mine: I don't think our next captain has played a game for points yet. I think Van Berlo could be a smokey from all reports and maybe someone like a Meesen if he lives up to expectation.

Didn't you hear that Bone already decided Meesen is our man? :D

Early days, but for me Thompson unless we get Pav when he next comes out of contract.

No-one stands out yet. Thompson looks the part but very very early days for him. My preference is for someone who plays in the midfield.

I don't believe Reilly is hard at it enough to be a future Captain. MCdermott, Bickley, Roo, Reilly - can you spot the odd one out. Don't get me wrong, he's a good little player but not AFC captain material.

I know. Another indication of where our list is at he moment that I pick a 1st gamer as a future captain.

Give him time to develop the Two main attributes needed physical and ability, he would still be looking over his shoulder every Thursday night to see if he is selected or not, he still has a lot to learn and how to effectively play this game. In 3 years time he should no longer be a ‘stick of a kid’ and he should have developed his body into a sold unit, this will turn him into a very different player and he should have been developed into a ‘hard as nail’ player with the captaincy attributes you were talking about.

On our list now i would say Scott Thompson by far. He's got the skill & agressive attitude to fill Roos shoes.

But i still think when Pavlich comes out of contract in 3 years we lure him over with the possibility he could be Captain of the Team he loved when growing up.

Assuming the new captain would begin captaining for the 2008 season i would think the likely contenders would be -

McGregor
Johncock
Thompson
Rutten

And if these three show development by than possibbly

Meeson
Watts
Van Berlo

I think it will be clearer in a couple of years time. Kenny would be the best option at the moment, but reckon he will end up being a vc behind the next captain.

Doughty. I believe this boy is filled with talent and is very under rated.

Its a good question actually. Roo was the ideal and ready replacement for Bicks. I can't really see anyone who would be immediately ready to take the job on. In another time I think Goody would have made a great captain but age will not allow him to be captain. Based on the players there now. I think Scott Thompson is a potential captain. From what I have seen he is tough, hard, committed and has good leadership qualities. Its a tough one.
