That’s why southern state teams hate the northern academies
Exactly and Bayside and surrounding areas is probably the richest football zone in the AFL and yet we don’t benefit at all.So we have no say over local talent but Queensland clubs get all their local talent
that's correct. one of my friends moved up to the Gold Coast only 12 months ago and his son is now playong for GC academy...his parents are both aussie born as wellSo we have no say over local talent but Queensland clubs get all their local talent

All the ones playing this year. But bottoms two not draft eligibility till next year. I hope cam Mackenzies brother can have the rise he had. Same size and playing position. Is that this year NGA prospects? Or is it spread over a few years?
It would be interesting to see which private schools in our zone offer footy sports scholarships.
The familys would sometimes then also move into the area( our zone) to make it easier to go to school, drop offs etc.
Clubs would already be heading down this path surely.
st kilda should offer to pay some of the school fees if they move to the zone. If they are elitest kilda should offer to pay some of the school fees if they move to the zone. If they are elite

I don't think a 17 yr old that is yet to even play an U18s game would have even an ounce of impact on an AFL tradeWe havent seen him play yet, but Harding is generally honest in his assessment of the talent at the Dragons. If he is half the player described and with our depth of small/medium defenders why would we be looking at Miles Bergman?
Did you miss what Basset said and did last season?Seems like Basset may need to get on his pulpit and start lambasting afl around inequalities.

"poor forward projecting" is a crazy accusationI would have thought it would be very poor forward projecting if the club didnt consider what kids they have coming through. We dont know what Fincher is like but our recruiters should be all over him, perhaps he is not up to it who knows. Although Harding also mentioned he is going to get some midfield exposure this season so lets hope he can keep improving.
Its the exact rationale as to why we didnt take Lenny Hofmann as NGA last year, because we have so many playing that position.
Bergman would be in the age gap void on our list, but I dont think Hastie and Shoenmaker are that far off being able to pay at a similiar level. Surely we are better off as a club taking available NGA's or father son (Wakelin) than we would be giving up a 1st round pick for a player who is not really a list need.

You are comparing speculative 17 yr olds not even rated close to the top of their draft class to an established 24 yr old best 22 AFL player. Massive difference of quality between the two levels
Not even close to the Hofmann scenario. If we really wanted Hofmann then why did we take Travaglia Tauru Barrat all as relatively similar types of players before him?
So why are you criticising the club for preferring to trade for Bergman over drafting Fincher (which isnt even a guarantee because if Fincher is good enough, we can have both) when you literally admit that the club knows more than you?Why is it a crazy accusation, Im sure every club who has taken an NGA or father son in the last decade has pre planned to manage their list before bringing them in. Clubs start preparing draft points etc a couple of years in advance before grabbing kids. Yes he is a speculative pick to you and I, but our recruiters should know plenty about the kid and other NGA's & father sons coming through. Just because you know little about the kid, remember he has been in the academy for sometime.
Hofmann was taken late in the draft which was a completely different prospect than the top 32. At 190cm I doubt he was considered a key defensive player eg Barrat & Tauru and it looks like the club expect Travaglia to become a midfielder. Perhaps the club only rated him a rookie pick who knows, but you answered your own statement in that the club considered they had too many of the same type of players. Which is exactly my point re Bergman.
You and I are never going to agree on the game and list management we are universes apart in our thoughts. How about we agree to disagree and move on....

That is why its crazy
You are overreacting (again) with minimal substance to your argument
"very poor forward projecting by the club"You are special I will say that!
I wasnt criticising the club, I was saying if they consider Fincher as a player he should be considered when/if trading for Bergman. Its not that hard even for you!
"very poor forward projecting by the club"
You berate everything about the club. Trade, draft, injury management, planning, tactics, admin.....
And I'm the special one.
Nope this is recent historyDid you miss what Basset said and did last season?
Probably the 5 year 20kg proven AFL player reasons. We havent seen him play yet, but Harding is generally honest in his assessment of the talent at the Dragons. If he is half the player described and with our depth of small/medium defenders why would we be looking at Miles Bergman?

Good to see you boys back in form..FFS that was a response to your statement when you suggested Fincher wouldnt be considered prior to the Bergman trade. I dont berate the club, I question some decisions and offer an opinion which I think democracy is based on. In any event who elected you the club 'crusader' guarding the gates at Moorabbin.
When the club win their next premiership I will stop questioning things and suggesting alternatives.
Obviously we disagree on everything, so please put me on ignore I wont be responding to any more of your rubbish.
Just cite the cotton on clause. Are they allowed to under the rules?
