Here's my 2 cents worth.....

Desirable attributes can be classified into a couple of categories, for example, personal physical, skill level and mental (there are several others or sub-headings).

Personal physical includes such things as fitness and associated measures - how fast, short (beep test) and long (3 km) distances, jumping, agility. Research completed last year showed that the major change in the last 10 years of players coming thru the national draft and like programs is that players are on average 2 cms taller. In short, these players are elite level athletes. If you don't make the cut-offs, you don't progress. The talent pool is so deep that your (above average) skill won't compensate for fitness deficiencies.

Skill level is a harder attribute to quantify except if you watch the players under match conditions. Other points to consider include the standard of the game eg playing Under 18 or A grade in the local comp or Under 18 National Champs Div 1 V Div 2. That's an advantage recruitment officers have over journalists.

Mental skills - include decision making esp under pressure as well off field management of personal issues.

Good luck with the project

Drink, smoke, take drugs, stay out all night, piss where you want, break what you want, root who you want, just as long as you get 30+ possies each week or kick bags of goals!..:thumbsu:

Ask Scott Clayton the doggies recruiter, seems to have a good record of recruiting skillful players and the proof is starting to show.

IMO major attribute these days seems to be speed and endurance.

l would add some very important skills/requirements to this:
motivation - if you are not motivated you can have all the skills and not use them to there fullest (nathan ablett)
the ability to deal with pain - being able to recover from injuries (james hird)
courage - the ability to stand your ground when you know something bad is going to happen (james hird)
belief - to have the ability to keep going when other people tell you you arn't good enough (tony liberatore) or its time to give up (robert harvey). I think you can include under 'belief' the ability to know when you have lost the edge and it is time to move on (james clement)
leadership - the ability to lead and inspire the people around you (james hird)

50% of it is made up in 6 inches (not ur manhood) but ur head
andrew lockyer (current 18s coach of wa) always said the 6inches up here (pointing to his head) is what separates a good player from a fantastic player

obviously incredible speed skill and fitness otherwise they wont even get looked at

someone said it before, the fitness speed and strength of some of hte kids who attend draft camp are already close to elite levels of other sports

i mean look at nicolas natanui (excuse the spelling), apparently with his vertical leap test they cant set that thing high enough because he can knock all of them, could clearly be in the olmypics for high jump

attitude

it's the main reason why i think rhys palmer will become a star of the game

he is not tall strong or quick, his skills are questionable at times, but he has such a great influence on games because he works himslef into the ground

there are heaps of players who have all the physicall attributes but dont make it because they have poor attitudes

I hope you're not really "the teacher" and just did his homework.

While you're at it, I know you asked for mostly physical attributes, but throw in a little mental discipline and determination as well. I've seen plenty of promising athletes lose ground and be surpased by those with a better attitude. Doesn't matter how good you are, a decent work ethic is essential.

As Woody Allen said '90% of success is just showing up' ... each and every time, each and every day. How much do you want it?

his attitude towards his football has been like that since he was 10
that is a main reason why he has made it today

Or you could take the easier route and get drafted to Fremantle then ask for a trade.
