Does anyone reckon Haggers was actually observant enough to notice it himself or just saw the post someone made about it on here?

Even though it stuck out like mutts nuts I reckon someone would have to put them under his horrid hooter.

Edit:Having said that he does seem to have a source re injuries.Maybe a lab mole or something.

Extremely unlikely. Stride manages Fyfe, same as Lachie Neale, and we know how they feel about a certain "sports journalist" :)

None of us actually knows who has leaked this information, but if one thinks about the interests of the parties involved, it seems to me that it would be in Fyfe's interest for his manager to disclose this information (and it's his manager's duty to promote Fyfe's interests) whereas it would not be in the club's interest to leak this information at this point I don't think.

I don't buy it, Stride don't roll that way, and Dover was also the WA link involved during Neale's contract negotiations along with Tim - leaking benefits neither the club or the player

He's in the middle of contract negotiations. Sitting on the sidelines half the year decreases his value to other clubs and how much he can ask from us.

I'd say he'd be pushing as hard as possible to play through injury to maximise his $$$ over the next 5+ years.

Reading through this thread a little bit. Seems unanimous that you guys want to keep Fyfe rather than get a new player in. It surprises me.

If you guys finish say 15th and let him go as an FA you would have picks 4 and 5 (compo) right? You could do a lot with that. Putting aside going for guys like Kelly or Dusty with the assumption they will only go to Victoria. Wouldnt you talk to clubs about getting a gun WA boy? Wouldnt Carlton do a trade that sent your two picks to GWS. They get Kelly and you get Cripps work for everyone.

If they were the ones taking Fyfe it would be even better for a deal. They would have Fyfe + Kelly, you would get a contracted Cripps and GWS would get probably the best draft picks they could possibly get. Maybe Carlton throws their first to GWS as well or instead of one of yours. But you get the jist.

Is there no outlook that you guys see other than holding on to Fyfe as being your best outcome?

If I were you I would take the younger Cripps over post injury Fyfe.

You're assuming Cripps wants to come home because hes WA, when in reality hes there next captain and not going anywhere.

Thanks for the info and it's good to have your view. I confess I didn't follow Neale's contract negotiations and have no idea as to the modus operandi of the various managers. I just thought it was reasonable to suppose that Fyfe's contract negotiations were being adversely affected by the crescendo of unjustified negativity surrounding him. Personally, I wouldn't have held it against Fyfe's manager one bit had he decided to put an end to it by setting the record straight.

He is a freo boy. I would imagine it was his dream to play for Freo as a kid (guess). Also if Carlton came to him and said we want to trade you for Kelly (and possibly Fyfe) he would be pretty offended and take up the offer to go home. You would have to be willing to pay him a big contract which you could afford.

I think Fyfe is a superior player to Cripps with a higher ceiling, I actually think Blakely will be outperforming Cripps in two years time.

I think that if Fyfe wanted to move as a free agent that we could extract more value than pick four or five as compensation out of that club. A club's acquisition of both Fyfe and Kelly would make them bleed, but having two of the best players in the competition next year would be value.

Brisbane are the ones who have a potential free agent that they would push out the door for pick #2 in compensation. I fully expect the AFL to throw them that pick even if Rockliff only gets a two year deal worth $800,000 total to avoid giving them a priority pick.

I think we would be more likely to try and steal McGovern from your mob....And we keep Fyfe ;)

if Fyfe says he wants to leave you look at the best compo available, which is more likely a trade than FA. If Fyfe wants to stay you figure out the contract.

On this years form you wouldnt get much more than a top 5 pick which is your compensation anyway. But whether its that or something even better, its not a bad time to cash in your chips with Fyfe.

As for McGovern hopefully he doesnt leave us. We will see. Do you guys really think its smart to trade for three forwards in 2 years? I would have thought he goes to West Coast or stays with us.

You are joking if you think we wouldn't get minimum a top 5 pick and a top 15 pick
Have a look at the Judd trade except this time a team is luring a player away from his home state...
Fyfe was a brownlow medalist two years ago and if not for a dumb suspension ruling (head clash) he would have been a two time brownlow medalist at the age of just 24 (25 now)

There is not a chance in hell Fyfe leaves through FA, we will match and force a trade.

Also he has said he isn't leaving anyway so I dunno why I bothered typing out this response

I was taking into account he would probably be the highest paid player in the AFL. You could match that. But it might be better if you didn't thats all. The club that gives him his next contract has to take the risk that he will never return to pre-onjury form.

There are a stack of reasons why the club would want Fyfe to stay.
  • Sets a high standard for work ethic
  • We can afford him (older players exiting last year and this year)
  • Leadership (a small matter called The Captain)
  • Marketing
  • Even as the walking wounded his game is still of a high standard, there would still be hopes to get back to elite
  • Is a local boy
The ball is in Fyfes court though, if he wanted to go, I doubt the club would stand in the way. Personally, I don't see it happening, he doesn't strike me as the sort of bloke who would walk away from his responsibilities - and he has only just been appointed captain 6 months ago. Maybe if there was bad blood it might make staying difficult, but there are no murmurs of that sort of thing.

No harm in putting out hypotheticals. Some posters get very defensive.

No matter how you phrase it letting Fyfe go by FA means we can only max get a single first round pick.

Why allow for someone to come in and spout that terrible hypothetical? Something that literally has no chance of happening?

It's not so much defensive as it is pointing out an obvious error, no club in the league would accept a single first round pick for Fyfe if there are clear other options...

Only if Freo chose to match the offer.

Posters post wrong things all the time. It's a big part of bigfooty

It won't even get that far, look at the Dangerfield deal.
Why would we take a lesser option in just the one pick?

I stand by it having no chance of happening 95% he stays 5% he goes in a trade
